The city of Starnberg wants to have a street renovated for the first time in years.

It has created financial leeway for this through the savings decisions made at previous meetings.

Whether this will actually happen is still subject to change.

Starnberg

– Josef-Fischhaber-Straße in Starnberg is to be the first street in years that the city has renovated.

The city council's building committee voted unanimously in favor of this at its meeting on Thursday evening.

If possible, planning and execution should take place this year, but if necessary it should be divided into two construction phases.

An initial rough estimate from the town hall assumes a gross cost of 1.4 million euros for 4,536 square meters of street space.

At first glance, some Starnbergers may rub their eyes in surprise: in two consecutive meetings, the city council recently increased contributions, raised taxes and cut subsidies in order to get its budget for the current year under control and take the first steps towards it a structural improvement in finances.

And then a street of all things needs to be renovated?

Dr.

Franz Sengl (Greens) formulated exactly this supposed discomfort on Thursday.

“We made relatively tough cuts.

Spending a lot of money now to repair a pothole might give the wrong impression,” he said.

Mayor Patrick Janik saw it exactly differently.

“We did disgusting things to have leeway,” he explained.

It is now all the more important that citizens see that something is being done.

“We have a huge renovation backlog,” emphasized Janik.

118 million euros needed in ten years

It's even quantified - a specialist company estimated the need for renovation almost exactly three years ago at a gigantic 118 million euros, which is necessary just to bring the Starnberg road network into shape within ten years.

The Eagle Eye company had previously traveled along the entire road network and documented the condition.

However, there has been no renovation work since then because the city did not have the money for it.

The administration now presented a list of 26 streets based on the findings at the time.

Four of them - Klenzestraße, Bozener Straße, Fuchsgraben and Erlenweg - fell into damage category eight, the worst class ever.

This is defined as “threshold exceeded, very poor condition, measures overdue,” as building authority manager Regina Lechner explained.

22 others belonged to condition class seven, which means “warning value exceeded, poor condition, plan measures urgently”: Luitpoldstrasse, Andechser Strasse between house numbers 45 to 51, Ludwigstrasse, Altostrasse at house numbers 13 and 15, St.-Michael-Strasse out of town Taubenhüll, Wangener Straße between house numbers 14 and 45, Mühlbergstraße, Otto-Gaßner-Straße, Alpspitzstraße, Pöckinger Straße, forest playground, Riedener Weg, Fichtenweg, Heimatshauser Straße, Josef-Fischhaber-Straße, Lindenweg, Ludwig-Thoma-Weg, Max-Emanuel -Straße and Wildmoosstraße as well as the sidewalks of Enzianstraße and Großglocknerstraße.

The order was based on the type of street and its urban significance, for example whether it serves public transport, is a route to school or leads to facilities such as sports facilities or cemeteries.

Residential roads are removed from the list

The local roads were out of the running relatively quickly.

“I ask that Bozener Straße not be turned into a race track, but rather that the small holes be filled,” said Rudolf Zirngibl (CSU), who lives there, saying what many residents probably think: the worse the condition, the better the road users slow down.

In the case of Andechser Straße, the still unclear takeover regulations with the state building authority speak against this, explained Patrick Janik.

Alpspitzstrasse is a candidate, he explained.

However, the wastewater association apparently has to be brought on board, as it hardly has any free capacity.

“The forest playground urgently deserves it, but only after the multi-story apartment building on Wiesengrund,” says Janik.

So the choice fell on Josef-Fischhaber-Straße, which, in Janik's opinion, was supported by its condition and traffic importance.

Dr.

Thorsten Student (UWG) suggested two construction phases because the condition in the direction of Hanfelder Straße was worse than that in the direction of Söckinger Straße.

Janik then suggested extending the renovation to 2024 and 2025 if necessary.

Whether this actually happens will be decided by the main and finance committee and the city council during further budget discussions.
