Dorfen - 500 mourners say goodbye to Jakob Pelkermüller in Dorfen and pay him their last respects.

He died tragically on Hemadlenz Day.

Dorfen - The first mourners are already sitting in the Maria Dorfen parish church half an hour before the funeral service for Jakob Pelkermüller begins, watching the images being played on a large screen.

Many have tears in their eyes, but some also have a smile when they see their Jakob with a huge fish in his hands, dressed up in a pigtail wig, as an ardent 1860s fan or partying with friends.

Jakob Pellerkermüller, who would have celebrated his 25th birthday next Tuesday, died in an accident at the train station on Hemadlenzn Day.

The whole village and beyond are mourning the cheerful and empathetic young man.

He was always there for others

The church has now filled up, especially with young people, many with a white rose in their hand.

They hold each other tight, hug each other and comfort each other because they still don't want to believe what happened.

“So many questions arise,” says Father Stephan, “questions about why?” The priest doesn’t want to try to find consoling words, they would sound too much like consolation.

He is equally at a loss and assures: “I feel for you, but Jacob remains in your heart, love is stronger than death.”

The deceased must have been a special person, as is clear in all the obituaries.

“Jakob had a rare mix of talent and willingness to help,” describes Elfriede Schiessleder, a religion teacher at the Altötting vocational school, in an interview with the local newspaper.

During the mourning session on the day after the accident, a classmate revealed: "Without Jakob, I would never have understood the difference between current and voltage." Another even said: "Without Jakob's motivation, I would have dropped out in the first year." He recently completed his journeyman's examination to become an electrician alongside his colleagues.

Jakob after two and a half years of apprenticeship because he had completed his career at the Dorfen high school with his Abitur.

“He has an average of 1.1 – the best report card I have ever been able to write,” as his vocational school teacher emphasized at the memorial service and for which Jakob would have been awarded the Bavarian government’s state prize.

But it wasn't the grades that his teacher would remember, it was his extraordinary willingness to help: "If someone didn't understand something, Jakob sat down with them and explained everything to them again."

The talented “Mr. Professor”

His talent became apparent in early childhood, as the family writes in his CV, which Father Stephan presents.

“Jacob was an inquisitive and intelligent boy,” which is why he was affectionately called “the Professor” by the family with which he was closely connected.

You are no longer where you used to be, but you are wherever we are

Jakob Pelkermüller's friends

His hobbies were fishing and ice hockey at ESC Dorfen, for which he played in the 1b team.

His team said goodbye to him with a trellis in his jersey and touching words: “We laughed, cried and celebrated together.

We traveled across the country with the team and had so many adventures planned with you, but we are sure you will be with us too.”

“You're no longer where you used to be, but you're everywhere we are,” his clique is also certain.

PJ, as Jakob was called by his friends, was a lovely person whose joy of life was contagious.

He was up for any kind of fun, but he also stood by his friends when there were problems.

His favorite song became his farewell song

His joy of life should probably also be illustrated by the song “Life is beautiful” by Sarah Connor, which Christine Plantelt sang very touchingly as well as “Amoi seng ma uns wida” and Bach’s “Ave Maria”.

Jakob always heard “Crockett's Theme”, the theme song from Miami Vice, with his brother Florian on the way to fish. Yesterday it was his farewell song before his mother, accompanied by his father, five siblings and 500 mourners, brought the urn to the family grave wore.
