A long phase of unstable weather with widespread rain and snow has hit Italy after the recent balmyspell, weatherman Antonio Sanò, founder of the site www.iLMeteo.it, said Saturday.
"There will be a lot of rain and still very much snow in the Alps at least until the first few days of March," he said.
A new Atlantic front has moved on from the Iceland Depression, Sanò said.
