To obtain a master's degree (Bac+5), the selection is tough.
It takes place at the entrance to M1, first year of master's degree.
This selection is made via an admission file, to be sent via the “My Master” site, a new one-stop registration window, or directly to the establishment, the first selection step before an interview.
To pass this filter, it’s up to you to put together the best possible file.
1. Find the right balance
Some masters are very selective, others less so.
This is due to different factors: rarity of certain specializations, lack of places or even reputation of the training.
Diversify applications to diversify the risks and chances of being selected.
Vary the applications, with your favorite courses on one side and a few B plans on the other.
2. Anticipate
You will have to provide documents: your grades (from the previous year or two), your diplomas, sometimes a CV, a cover letter for this Master's degree, letters of recommendation from a former internship supervisor or former professor, language level certificate, etc.
Start gathering the ones you're missing today so you'll have all your weapons on hand when the time comes.
A former teacher, apprenticeship tutor or internship supervisor may take a week or more before finding the time to respond to you.
3. Educate yourself thoroughly
It's about knowing where you step.
“When the same file has been sent everywhere, we feel it immediately,” guarantees Laurence Mariet-Sanchez, head of the recruitment center at EM Normandie Business School.
Then it guides your thinking by listing a few questions: “What lessons will you receive in the first year?
And the second?
What options are you thinking of choosing?
How will they help your future career choices?

4. Take care of your style
Getting proofread by someone close to you is always a good idea, but is not always easy since applications are made online.

“Rather than a cover letter, we ask questions related to the master's degree.
Thus, we release overly formatted texts and obtain more personal responses,” illustrates Laurence Mariet-Sanchez.
