Alexei Navalny's death has shaken the world: his widow Yulia is now sharing an emotional post - to which Dmitri Medvedev responds with derision.
Moscow – Last week, Kremlin opponent Alexei Navalny died in a Russian prison camp.
As a result, the world public looked to Moscow not only because of the escalations in the Ukraine war.
Vladimir Putin's dealings with members of the opposition and political opponents suddenly became the core of sharp criticism of the leadership in Russia.
Navalny's widow Yulia Navalnaya hardly had any time to mourn in private - instead, she was suddenly more in public than ever and has become the strong face of the Russian opposition.
After Navalny's death, his wife published the first picture together with their grieving daughter Darja in memory of the deceased.
“My sweet little girl.
I flew to you to hug and support you, but you sit there and support me,” wrote Yulia Navalnaya in a post published on Instagram on Thursday.
For Russia's former president Dmitry Medvedev, this was an opportunity to mock the mourners.
After Navalny's death: Widow publishes post - Medvedev steps in
On his Telegram channel, Medvedev shared an interview in which he verbally attacked the dead Navalny and his widow.
He initially said he couldn't say anything good about Navalny, before he criticized Navalnaya.
“Look at the smiling, happy face of the Navalny widow: it seems as if she has been waiting all these years to start her political career,” he claimed, despite the many pictures showing the sadness Navalnajas can be seen.
Navalny’s team responded to Medvedev’s slanders with the comment: “Scumbag.
Lousy scumbag.”

It has not been uncommon for Medvedev to attract attention with verbal gaffes since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
The former Russian president repeatedly threatens to expand fighting or nuclear strikes against targets in the West.
Vladimir Putin, however, held back from making public statements about Navalny's death - but in response to protests, he ordered demonstrators to be sent to the front in the Ukraine war.
Kremlin spokesman Peskov had previously commented on Navalny's death and received a clear response from Navalnaya.
Julia Navalnaya as Navalny's successor: wife is now making a political career
Shortly after Navalny's death, his wife Yulia Navalnaya publicly announced that she would continue opposition work against Putin and thus follow in her husband's footsteps.
Navalny's widow did not immediately travel to see the children on Friday, but initially blamed Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin for her husband's fate in front of the world at the Munich Security Conference.
She alleges that her husband's death was a murder planned by Putin.
At the same time she announced investigations.
Experts see her public positioning as the beginning of her own political career.
There are already suggestions that she could become the new strong face of the opposition both inside and outside Russia.
With her emotional posting, in the midst of the debate about the cause and circumstances of Navalny's death, Navalnaya once again shows that, despite everything, there is also a trusting family behind the character of Navalny.
In addition to the aforementioned 23-year-old Darja, the opposition activist also had a 15-year-old son.
In the past, Darya Navalnaya had repeatedly made political demands for the release of her imprisoned father and had also given speeches in honor of him at award ceremonies.
She studies at Stanford University in the USA.
