Ten people were killed on Saturday in the collision of a truck and a van in Mexico, in the state of San Luis Potosi (north-central), local authorities announced.
The accident, which occurred early this Saturday, February 24, claimed the lives of five women, four minors and a man, the local prosecutor's office said in a press release, adding that there were also a number of injured.
Traffic accidents on the rise
Traffic accidents have increased sharply in recent years in Mexico, going from 301,678 in 2020 to 377,231 in 2022, according to the latest figures from the National Institute of Statistics.
Last Sunday, five Argentine tourists and a Mexican national died in a road accident in the state of Quintana Roo, home to tourist hotspots like Cozumel and Cancun.
In late January, a collision between a bus and a semi-trailer killed 19 people and injured 22 in the northwestern state of Sinaloa.
