On March 3rd, Putzbrunn will elect its mayor.

Edwin Klostermeier (SPD) wants to defend his office and continue his work.

Putzbrunn – Edwin Klostermeier (68) wants to continue his “successful work of 18 years as mayor” in the next two years.

He will enter the race for his fourth term in office on March 3rd.

“We don’t need a fresh start, we constantly have new ideas that we implement.

Our model is the local mission statement, which is continually being supplemented,” says Klostermeier.

He confidently counters the criticism of his CSU challenger Stokloßa: “We have already tackled what he is demanding.”

Klostermeier was born in Straubing and grew up in Wörth an der Donau.

“I had a happy childhood,” he says.

He often roamed through the forests with his father, a forester.

“This is where my love for nature and environmental protection comes from.” He trained as an administrative economist with the Free State of Bavaria in Regensburg and moved to Munich for professional reasons.

“I found a beautiful house in Putzbrunn with my wife Edeltraud and our two sons; we have felt comfortable here for over 45 years,” emphasizes Klostermeier.

If re-elected, only remain in office for two years

He used to be a competitive athlete and competed in 15 marathons. Today he is an enthusiastic cyclist and a member of the fire brigade, warriors and soldiers and sports club PSV.

Surprisingly, the Social Democrat won the election for mayor in 2006 against Florian Hahn (CSU), who later became a member of the Bundestag.

His predecessor, Josef Kellermeier, had to resign a year earlier after several scandals.

This was two years after the regular local and mayoral elections.

Several attempts failed to bring Putzbrunn back to the usual, joint election date for the mayor, local council and district council on the same day.

“Therefore,” says Klostermeier in response to his CSU opponent’s criticism, “I think it is a very fair and honest suggestion that I say that I will stand for two years, continue my successful work and leave the field to other candidates in 2026.

Then there will be mayoral and local elections on the same day.” This is not only the wish of the municipal legal supervision, but also saves the municipality 30,000 euros.

“That’s how expensive this election is.”

Satisfied with the term in office so far

Klostermeier looks back on 18 years with satisfaction: “We were ready with wind power over ten years ago, but Mr. Seehofer and his CSU prevented that.

We have had PV systems on all municipal south roofs for 15 years, now it's the turn of the north sides." He is vehemently committed to geothermal energy in the town, promised 40 affordable apartments in the last election, and now there are 60 can be rented for 11.50 euros per square meter.

“I'm proud of that.

Also that we have 28 million euros in liquid assets and have increased trade tax from six to 20 million euros.

We also have a lot of land that we can convert into building land or business.” That wasn’t the case with his predecessors, as the community didn’t have any land in reserve.

Putzbrunn has a stable economy with good taxpayers.

The important senior citizen and children's home project has been decided and is on its way.

With the Arge Hitzewende and Arge Wind working groups with neighboring municipalities, he has set the right course for joint heat and wind planning.

He doesn't want major investors, but rather as a community to keep energy development in its own hands.

It is equally important to him to find as many employees as possible to take care of children.

“I will tackle this with full enthusiasm as well as many other projects.

That’s why I’m sure that the Putzbrunners will elect me again.”
