“I would like to see a roundabout,” says Aßling’s mayor Hans Fent (independent).

Aßling has big plans: The community is planning a new residential area - and a roundabout could soon become a reality.
It is an expansion without single-family homes.
Aßling
– Aßling already has a traffic light at the school.
But a really nice, urban roundabout - that's what the 4,600-inhabitant community is still missing, which is expected to grow into a 5,100-inhabitant community in the coming years.
Growth and a new roundabout could go hand in hand, according to Mayor Hans Fent.
Because north of Glonnerstrasse, next to the Rewe market in the direction of the train station, a residential area is planned on a green field.
Mainly three-storey apartment buildings, one floor less than the striking “Stacheter blocks” on Fliederstrasse.
There are also some terraced houses, but the community definitely does not want a single-family home development in this area.
Multi-storey building for affordable housing: “We think we can find a good consensus.”
The mayor explains that affordable housing will be created over the years for 400 to 500 people.
“We think we can find a good consensus there,” he says about the coordination with the other owners of the area.
A third belongs to the community.
(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)
Fent sees some opportunities in the development area for the community to prepare for the future.
For the construction of senior housing and day care, for example.
And for a daycare reserve area.
And to solve a speed problem at the same time with traffic access.
More traffic and speeding cars: A possible solution is a roundabout
Because from the Bahnhofsberg towards the town hall, people often drive too fast, despite the speed indicator and occasional radar controls.
“A unique opportunity for Aßling,” says Fent, calling the possibility of simultaneously slowing down traffic on State Road 2079 (Glonner Straße) thanks to the new development area.
He says: “I would like a roundabout.” The fact that there are already spray markings at the possible construction site and the radius of the roundabout has been marked out is what is getting people talking in the community.
“But there is no decision yet,” says Fent, emphasizing the local council’s decision-making authority.
A traffic light or more turning lanes were also examined as options for the planned junction at Birkenstrasse.
But the forecast traffic figures at the junction, which would connect the two residential areas north and south of the state road, justified a roundabout, says the mayor: “There is movement in there!”
An important decision is due on Tuesday, February 27th
It will take years until the new development area is fully planned and developed.
The local council will decide on the transport connection on Tuesday, February 27th (from 7 p.m.).
