Pope Francis, who is suffering from a
“mild flu condition”
, has canceled his meetings planned for Saturday February 24, the Vatican announced in a press release.
“Due to a slight illness of the flu, the Pope has canceled as a precautionary measure the audiences planned for today
,” the Vatican said, without giving any other details.
Visits already canceled in December
The pope, who turned 87 in December and uses a wheelchair, has been affected by a series of health problems in recent years, including his knees, hips and colon.
He also had hernia surgery in June.
Francis, who had a partial lung removed in his youth, had to cancel his highly anticipated visit to Dubai in early December to participate in the UN climate conference due to bronchitis.
