Five bantams have moved into the Taufkirchen middle school.
Taufkirchen
– They are true beauties, the five bantams that moved into the courtyard of the Taufkirchen middle school at the turn of the year.
Even though the dwarf wyandottes are a robust breed that can withstand weather and frost, a chicken house was installed for the animals in their enclosure behind the classroom containers.
Headmaster Ade Geier enthusiastically presented the project.
“We bought a car trailer from the Feraro family circus.
Then the boys and carpenter Michael Brenninger from Wartenberg converted it into a rolling chicken coop.”
A new floor was needed, the old one “was not there,” says Geier.
Perches were screwed in and folding laying areas were added on the outside so that the eggs could be removed.
The chicken coop is on wheels so that you can drive it to kindergarten if you are interested.
The headmaster said the number of eggs was still manageable and took four out of the laying boxes.
But if it gets warmer now, the bantams will definitely be more willing to lay, and then they will be used for cooking in the school kitchen.
Brenninger had also helped set up the rolling library, another project in which the students received expert instruction.
This is financed by the “Practice at Middle Schools” program from the government of Upper Bavaria.
And the support association contributed something for the fence, feed and for the purchase of the chickens.

The question about a rooster was also not left out.
“I had tons of inquiries about a cock, including from my parents.
But the residential development is too close,” and there could be complaints and sad students if he had to leave again, said Geier.
But the project is not yet finished with the rolling chicken coop.
Now it's time to find names for the five beauties.
All classes were asked to submit suggestions; a student-teacher jury will select the five smartest.
With 129 names, this was no easy task, especially since there were ideas like “Brutussi”, “Brutilde”, “Greta Huhnberg” or “Ei-hahn” and many references to food like “Popcorn”, “Nutelli”, “Snickers”, “Chicken Nugget”, “Oreo” or “Brownie”.
Names like Henriette, Schorschi or Frieda were mentioned most frequently.
