When cannabis becomes legal from April 1st, Left-wing city councilor Alexander Strobl wants to found the first Cannabis Social Club in Moosburg.

He is looking for colleagues for this.

Moosburg

- The cannabis legalization law is on the home stretch, the Bundestag is scheduled to vote at the end of the week.

Then not only would private individuals be able to grow their own weed without punishment, but cannabis clubs would also be able to supply consumers.

Alexander Strobl from Moosburg is preparing such a cultivation association: The master electrician and technical operations manager (45) sits on the city council for Die Linke and would like to get the topic out of the dirty corner, as he says in the interview.

Mr. Strobl, the Bundestag is scheduled to vote on cannabis legalization on Friday.

How do you look forward to this day?

I'm actually hopeful that the law will no longer fail.

But it could still happen.

There are always pros and cons, but in the public debate the negative voices are heard much louder.

That puts a strain on the discussion.

In any case, the vote is a milestone.

I'm no longer a stoner myself, I have children (laughs).

But if you look at the Portuguese or Canadian model of legalization, it has led to fewer addicts and drug deaths there.

There is less abuse and the black market is curbed.

Of course, consumption could initially increase through curiosity, but the requirements are high and it is important to no longer criminalize consuming adults.

If the law passes: Will the first Moosburg cannabis club be founded immediately?

No, it can only be founded in July.

But you can get together beforehand.

It's tough what you have to sort out.

This will be a bureaucratic monster and will require a certain amount of lead time.

Why are you taking the initiative?

I don't have a green thumb, but I do have experience in founding clubs.

My primary goal is to take the topic out of the muddy corner and talk about it openly - because it represents the reality of life for many people.

Nobody should have to get anything from behind a bush anymore.

That's why I present myself as a liberal person and also as a public person and propagate this. I have already gone to the local police and explained what my plan is and that I want to make it as transparent as possible.

But they just told me: We'll wait and see what happens with the law and can't make any statements yet.

Where do you see the biggest challenges?

People need to show their faces.

And, regardless of whether it's in public relations or gluing bags: In a cannabis social club, every member has to be actively involved; there are no passive ones.

You first have to bring these 100 or 200 people under one roof.

Isn't it much easier to grow privately?

100 percent!

But not everyone has the opportunities.

Plus, there isn't that much quality control at home.

And it is deliberately intended to be a social club, I really like the social component: the common goal can bring people together, people look out for each other.

On top of that, trained addiction and prevention officers are also needed, for example.

I like that.

You have invited people to an initial information meeting on Facebook.

Have you already found interested parties or even colleagues?

About 20 to 30 people signed up.

These include experts such as botanists or someone trained in Canada to specify the cannabis flowers microscopically.

The response reflects reality: from 20-year-olds to pensioners, people of all ages and social classes smoke weed.

This is planned after legalization

From April 1st, smoking weed should no longer be a criminal offense - the traffic light coalition has agreed on this.

According to their draft law, adults should be allowed to possess up to 50 grams of cannabis for personal consumption in private and a maximum of 25 grams in public spaces.

Commercial sales outlets are not planned; instead, club-like, non-commercial cannabis social clubs should be allowed to grow THC-containing hemp plants and provide members with limited quantities (25 grams/day, maximum 50 grams/month) - with a maximum of ten percent THC content;

Adults aged 18 to 21 only receive 30 grams/month.

The controlled delivery is expected to start in July.

In order to protect children and young people in particular from the drug, there is a general ban on advertising and sponsorship for consumer cannabis and cultivation associations.

There are also plans to strengthen prevention through a federal awareness campaign.

Good to know

The first information evening for the later establishment of a cannabis social club in Moosburg will take place on Saturday, March 2nd, at 6:30 p.m. in the sports restaurant of TSV Moosburg Neustadt (Buchenlandstraße 32).
