A study shows that the proportion of women in Hollywood films is falling to a record low.
Reason enough for a new appointment.
It is 2024 and some believe that the world has entered the modern age.
At least in the film world, because it allows us to dream about it at least a little.
“Keep dreaming” is what you think when evaluating the most successful films of 2023. Because even if the long-awaited “Barbie” film was extremely successful in 2023, the list of female film characters looks pretty poor.
As if the lack of Oscars for the female "Barbie" characters wasn't enough...
The USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative is a research group from the University of Southern California that has been committed to addressing gender inequality in representation since 2007 Investigate film and television.
It turned out that there were as few female main characters or co-roles in 2023 as there were in 2010: a measly 30, whereas last year there were around 44 roles.
In addition, the number of female characters over the age of 45 has declined, as has the number of PoC actresses who get a chance at a significant role.
Not only does USC think it's pretty weak, but we do too.
Because when I look at the list of the most successful films in 2023, a few of the protagonists could have been replaced by female counterparts.
Then I might even have gone to the cinema.
