Abascal meets with Trump at the ultraconservative US conference

The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, met this Saturday with former US President Donald Trump in Washington DC, during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the annual meeting of the most right wing of US Republicans, according to reports. informed the ultra party.

The meeting, which lasted 15 minutes, served for both to analyze the policies they share.

Among them, Vox highlights “the strengthening of borders against illegal immigration;

the sovereignty of nations against globalism;

the protection of family and life against gender ideology and

culture ;

the prosperity of the middle classes in the face of the climate dictatorship or the firm commitment to investment in Defense.”

The leader of Vox spoke at the convention on Friday with a speech in Spanish in which he accentuated his most ultra-conservative profile, praising the traditional family, private property, “the faith of our fathers” or the defense of “life from its beginning.” until its natural end”, in the face of abortion or euthanasia, in one of its most applauded passages.

He also attacked the universities, which he said “have become machines of censorship, coercion, indoctrination and anti-Semitism” and “the spearhead of coming authoritarianism.”

Abascal, who presented himself as “a Spanish patriot,” attacked the Government of Spain, which he said is made up of “communists and socialists who protect and support Hamas terrorism, and declare themselves allies of the criminal regimes of Venezuela and from Nicaragua".

This year, the convention has a Latin air, since, in addition to the leader of Vox, the Argentine president, the anarcholiberal Javier Milei, has been invited;

the Salvadoran president, Navib Bukele, who has renewed office with an overwhelming majority after fighting criminal gangs with expeditious methods;

Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro;

and the Mexican actor and anti-abortionist Eduardo Verástegui.

Abascal had attended the CPAC on other occasions, but as an audience and in this edition he has taken to the podium for the first time.

Trump and Abascal had not met until now, although the former sent a recorded message to the annual Vox party in 2022 indicating him as his political representative in Spain.

In his speech, Trump, favorite to win the White House again in the presidential elections next November, mentioned Abascal, as well as other guests, and highlighted his “great reputation among conservatives around the world.” .

He has also encouraged the Spanish ultra party to continue defending his postulates.

On Friday, before attending the convention, Abascal held a meeting in Washington with the heads of the Heritage Foundation, the ultra-conservative foundation with which Disenso, its Vox counterpart, has joined forces, which has helped the Spanish party to enter the right-wing circles of the Republican Party.

Among the speakers scheduled at the ultraconservative conclave were also the architect of Trump's victory in 2016 and his fleeting advisor in the White House Steve Bannon and the traditionalist and anti-vaccine prelate Joseph Strickland, whom Pope Francis dismissed as bishop of Tyler (Texas). ).

Abascal's meeting with Trump occurs after the Galician elections last Sunday, in which Vox did not obtain any representative.
