Apameh Schönauer came to Germany from Iran when she was six years old.

After a long selection process, the graduate engineer won “Miss Germany”.

Rust - She wants to help young women to be courageous: The new “Miss Germany” Apameh Schönauer from Berlin sees herself as a role model.

She was born in the Iranian capital Tehran and came to Germany at the age of six.

According to the organizers, the winner receives the “Female Leader Award”.

It comes with a bonus of 25,000 euros.

“We moved to Germany so that me and my sister could live in freedom,” said Schönauer during the several-hour, emotionally charged show in Europa-Park.

“The path wasn’t easy.”

The bikini rounds are over

“Miss Germany” used to be an event with bikini rounds on the catwalk.

Then there was an image change: since 2019, what counts most is the personality of the participants and the willingness to take on responsibility.

The winner no longer gets a crown.

There is still only one sash.

“I think it’s great how much the competition has changed,” said Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus (Greens) in a video message.

“Today it’s about people instead of a one-sided image of women.”

Winner: Germany has to open its arms a little wider

During the event, Schönauer made clear her commitment to women's rights with a focus on Iran.

“I think Germany needs to open its arms a little wider and allow us to become more colorful,” she told the German Press Agency before the final round.

At the same time, she urged women with a migrant background to integrate: “I always celebrated Christmas and my Persian New Year.”

On the organizer's website, Schönauer wrote that she was committed to supporting disadvantaged and oppressed women through the Shirzan (Lion Woman) network.

According to the Miss Germany Studios, the graduate engineer has two children.

One candidate is missing from the stage

Surprisingly, one candidate was missing from the finale: 27-year-old Ann-Katrin Lange from Bad Gandersheim in Lower Saxony could not take part for health reasons, as presenter Lola Weippert announced.

The previous age limit of 39 no longer applied to the current season: the oldest finalist was Mignon Kowollik (42) from Hamburg.

The youngest in the final round was Adwoa Awuah (22) from Essen.

She came to Germany from Ghana at the age of eleven.

A jury made up of presenter Neda Peemüller, entertainer Nicolas Puschmann, influencer Twenty4Tim, author Vivien Wulf, actress Sharon Battiste and the PR head of the Miss Germany Studios, Jil Andert, chose the winner in front of around 1,000 guests.

According to the organizers, around 15,000 women applied at the start last year.

31-year-old lives with donor heart

The finalists represented very different profiles.

Tamara Schwab (31) from Roth, Bavaria, says she has been living with a donor heart for two and a half years.

Christina Modrzejewski (28) from Dinslaken is struggling with difficult challenges: she developed a rare autoimmune disease in 2021.

The trained nurse relies on a wheelchair and electronic orthoses.

Orthoses can be used, among other things, to stabilize damaged joints, immobilize limbs and correct poor posture.

Last year, the then 20-year-old Kira Geiss from Wilhelmsdorf near Ravensburg became “Miss Germany”.

She started out wanting to give the younger generation a voice.

The woman, who was active in the church, had founded a youth community in Magdeburg.

“This is not a beauty contest at all,” said Geiss at this year’s “Miss Germany” election.

There was still glamor: at the gala event, some participants wore glittering evening dresses.
