Simone Uras, 44, the son of 77-year-old Maria Atzeni, who was found dead yesterday late in the evening in a house in San Gavino, in southern Sardinia, was arrested during the night.
The man, who suffers from psychiatric problems, is accused of voluntary manslaughter.
He was tracked down, after a brief escape, by the Carabinieri of the Villacidro mobile radio while he was wandering around by car in Pabillonis, about ten kilometers from San Gavino, and was transferred to the Uta prison in Cagliari.
One of her sons, Simone Uras, 44 years old, found the woman last night around 10pm: the most supported hypothesis is that the old woman was strangled but we will have to wait for the autopsy to understand what happened in the house she.
"Mom attacked me and I defended myself."
Simone Uras would have called his cousin and said a few words to her before leaving, according to what emerges from the reconstruction made by the investigators who, in these hours, are trying to understand the contours of the affair.
It would have been the cousin who alerted Simone's brother who went to the house and found his mother dead, prompting emergency services.
According to what was learned, the police had already intervened in that house in the past due to family disputes and, on one occasion, compulsory medical treatment had also been requested which was allegedly refused.
The prosecutor on duty, Nicoletta Mari, will entrust the task to the coroner for the autopsy on Monday but it is also likely that advice will be requested on Simone Monni, who suffers from psychiatric problems.
