The Eurasburg fire department experienced an intensive year.

Calls out tripled, with the majority of them being fire alarms.

Eurasburg

– The Eurasburg fire department had a lot to do last year.

“It was a very intensive year of operations,” explained Commander Johann Rammelmaier at the most recent general meeting.

53 alerts in 2023 meant an increase “more than three times” compared to the 16 alerts in the previous year.

The Eurasburgers responded 13 times because of fire alarms - five times there were false or false alarms.

Technical assistance was required 38 times.

The increased fire alarms are one reason for the significant increase in deployment times, another reason is that “2022 was a year with few operations,” said the commander.

“On a long-term average, missions range between 25 and 40 per year.”

No devastating damage

Even though they had to concentrate on their original task of fighting fires comparatively often, there was no devastating damage.

Sometimes burnt milk on the kitchen stove was the reason for the heavy smoke in an apartment, sometimes a clogged kitchen wood stove called the fire department into action, sometimes an open fire in a garden.

Stormy gusts and, above all, “the hail storm in the southern district” also kept the people of Eurasus on tenterhooks last August.

On October 10th, “the local fire department's local knowledge once again proved to be of great use,” Rammelmaier reported on a successfully completed search for missing persons together “with a large contingent of forces from the BRK, water rescue service, dog handlers and police.”

The firefighters worked a total of 723 hours

In total, the active members of the Eurasburg Volunteer Fire Department worked 723 hours.

“Despite the high number, it should be emphasized that we were not confronted with any deaths or serious injuries during any operation,” emphasized the commander.

He expressly thanked his youth officers Steffi Haberl and Jan Heerwald.

“I am very happy that you are carrying out this task so well and that you have a very good rapport with the young people.”

The Eurasburg youth fire brigade, consisting of eleven young people, four of whom were young women, completed 20 exercises, the content of which was “based on the guidelines for modular squad training and prepared the young people for the relevant exams and active fire service”.

Participation in exercise has also improved significantly among adults, “but there is still room for improvement,” says Rammelmeier.

A new election of the board of directors will be held later

An important item on the agenda, the election of a new board, could not be carried out as planned due to too many short-term cancellations due to illness.

The election is scheduled to take place on March 5th.

The outgoing first chairman Markus Steffan thanked everyone for their support over the past six years and prepared those present for the future.

“The new board will be a great thing, they are young, dynamic people who can network,” said Steffan and added with a smile: “We used to sit in business, talk and make decisions.”
