At the BRK Bergwacht Wolfratshausen, the volunteers recently looked back on the year 2023 with area manager Andreas Westermeier at the annual general meeting.

Wolfratshausen – “Over hill and over stones”, this motto has been followed by the BRK mountain rescue team in Wolfratshausen for over 100 years when it comes to coming to the aid of injured people on impassable terrain.

Their base is Wolfratshausen in the Pupplinger Au, where training content is regularly taught, explained department manager Andreas Westermeier when asked.

On weekends, the volunteers can be found at their mountain rescue hut on the Latschenkopf - always ready to quickly help citizens and leisure enthusiasts if they have an accident.

Department heads of the Wolfratshauser Bergwacht take stock at the annual general meeting

Westermeier recently reviewed the year 2023 with the six department heads at the annual general meeting in the classroom at the rescue station in Wolfratshausen.

In addition to his position as department manager, Westermeier is responsible for the training department at Wolfratshauser Mountain Rescue.

Every Thursday the rescuers receive training and further training.

Wolfratshauser Bergwacht training: 49 appointments and 1,000 hours

It is not surprising that the leader reports on “a total of 49 training sessions” in which the comrades completed “1,000 hours of training”.

Hours in which the comrades “put a lot of energy and time into their hobby in order to be able to help a few people,” Westermeier praised the enthusiasm of his protégés.

He also explained that there are also practice scenarios once a month.

18 out of 30 active members continually come up with new ideas to create real conditions so that the rescuers can carry out their preventative work quickly and professionally in the worst possible cases - in summer and winter.

Cross-deployment training sessions, such as those at the Center for Safety and Training in Bad Tölz, were also regularly on the comrades' agenda in 2023.

Operations department of the Wolfratshauser Bergwacht: 100 days and 3,000 hours

Florian Lohse, head of the operations department, reported on 35 operations last year.

“Over 100 days,” the comrades “worked well over 3,000 hours in preventive service at Latschenkopf.”

Emergency medicine department of the Wolfratshauser Bergwacht: new equipment

Moritz Mörtl, deputy department head and department head in the emergency medicine department, reported on newly purchased equipment such as “videolaryngoscope and bone drill”, the latter an established system for administering medication.

Emergency doctors and paramedics use it to drill emergency patients in the leg instead of stabbing them in the arm.

Especially if, during a cardiac arrest, the superficial blood vessels are reduced in size and can simply no longer be found in the body.

Throw tents to keep patients warm while they are being cared for were also purchased.

A large part of the income can be attributed to donations and reimbursements for the support of events.

The expenses were spent on insurance, emergency vehicles and clothing, but also on equipment and training.
