A strong hailstorm that began to fall in the middle of the afternoon has forced the AP-7 motorway to be cut off in both directions between the Barcelona towns of Llinars del Vallès and Sant Celoni, while the snow has also cut off the Transversal Axis in Santa Coloma de Farners (Girona).
The storm, which began at 4:30 p.m., has caused closures on the highways and traffic jams that have trapped drivers for at least five hours, according to TV3.
At 10:00 p.m. the AP-7 towards Girona, at the height between Vilalba Saserra and Cardedeu, caused delays of up to 9.5 kilometers between Vallgorguinsa and Sant Celoni.

The Servei Català de Trànsit has reported that the hailstorm has also affected traffic on the C-35, in the same region of Vallès, as well as on the C-25, between Espinelves (Girona) and Sant Julià de Vilatorta (Barcelona). ).
Various personnel, according to Trànsit, are currently working to remove the ice from the hailstorm and spread salt on the road so that the highway can be reopened.
It so happens that shortly before the AP-7 was cut off due to this meteorological incident, an accident was recorded on that road, towards Girona, which caused three kilometers of delays in Santa Maria de Palautordera (Barcelona).
On the C-25 highway, known as the Transversal Axis, the snow has also forced traffic to be cut between Santa Coloma de Farners and Folgueroles, both in the province of Barcelona.
In this case, the Department of Territory of the Generalitat has activated snow removal machines to clean the road and spread salt.

The area of Santa Fe del Montseny (Barcelona) has accumulated three centimeters of snow, in a message from the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat).
In the afternoon, the rains have passed from the interior of Catalonia towards the coast, in some places with hail.
Likewise, they have remained in the northeast quadrant and other points of the Pre-Pyrenees and north of the Central depression: "They are of weak or occasionally moderate intensity" and sometimes with hail, adds Meteocat.
Trànsit asks drivers to exercise extreme caution behind the wheel to avoid accidents.
