President Yitzhak Herzog commented this morning (Sunday) on the uproar over Israel's Eurovision song, which was disqualified by the European Broadcasting Union: "It is important for Israel to appear in Eurovision, it is important to be smart, not just to be right," he said at the Jerusalem conference of the "Bassheva" group.
"It's an interesting conversation, I try to help it as much as I can, we talked about publicity and I think it's important for Israel to appear in Eurovision, and it's also a statement because there are haters who try to expel us from every stage," said the president.
"I think it's important that the corporation maintains a dialogue with the Eurovision union, and to be smart, not just to be right. There is a song that represented Israel in 1992 that says it's not just a sport, it's really not just a sport, it's also a matter of political and explanatory significance and should to take that into account. As I said, to be not only just but also to be wise."
