announced at the beginning of the month the dismissal of the vice-prime minister, Alejandro Gil Fernandez and several other ministers of the government of Manuel Marrero Cruz, including the Minister of Sciences and the Minister of Food Industry.
If Havana carried out a
“renewal”
of positions for the latter, Alejandro Gil was
“relieved of his functions”,
a more serious expression.
All were replaced by other
“comrades
”, unknown to the general public.
The fate of Alejandro Gil has not been mentioned, but it recalls those of the vice-president of the Council of State, Carlos Lage, responsible for economic reforms in the 1990s, and that of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Felipe Pérez Roque .
The two men were victims of a purge in 2009, when Raul Castro removed them from office, shortly after taking over from his brother, Fidel.
