Colorfully mixed: The DAV climbers took part in the competition in eight different groups.

Marinus (13, in the wall) is totally committed to his team.

These include (below from left) Laurin (16), Viktoria (12) and Julia (5).

45 children, teenagers and young adults competed against each other in the Tölzer climbing and bouldering hall.

However, the focus was not on winning, but on team spirit.

Bad Tölz

– Cohesion and team spirit were recently in demand in the Tölz climbing hall.

45 children, teenagers and young adults competed in eight teams in various categories.

What was special: The groups were diverse in terms of age and skill level.

It was the first time since the Corona break that the Tölz section of the German Alpine Club (DAV) held this competition again.

A first: seven climbers with intellectual disabilities were also there.

The Tölzer AV section currently has 9,000 members.

Ascending trend.

This is also reflected in the demand for climbing courses, which remains high, as Jenny Türnau from the DAV section said.

“We have 20 different groups, including three, who climb here regularly.” They practically don’t come across each other in everyday life.

The purpose of the competition on Friday was for the children and young people in the individual groups to get to know each other.

“You should see: Who else is in the hall?” The hall operator only opened the doors for the AV section on Friday morning.

The tasks that the teams had to complete in 20 minutes each included “meter climbing”, in which you had to get to the top in rope climbing for the maximum number of points;

The “Speed” section was about the speed at which a distance was covered.

Skill was required when climbing with a ball on your head.

And in the “rescue challenge,” for example, the teams had to build a stretcher.

There were two challenges for the young climbers in the bouldering hall: “Team stands on the wall” and “Solve bouldering problems”.

“Bouldering is about complex movement sequences,” explained Benedikt Hirschmann, chairman of the AV section.

“First you read the route with your eyes, then you solve the problem.” According to Hirschmann, the head comes first when bouldering.

The participants didn't know exactly what to expect.

The boulders - the special holds - were screwed specifically for the day of the competition, said Hirschmann, who himself works as a climbing trainer.

The chairman was pleased that so many children took part despite the holiday season.

“In this way, they get to know the idea of competition and each other in a playful way.” The competitive climbers, in turn, were able to practice instructing and supporting younger and less experienced climbers.

From the beginning there was no inhibition, said Türnau.

“The mood was excited right from the start.

An open cooperation.”

The project was financially supported by “ALM – Alpen Leben Mensch”.

This joint project by the Malteser Relief Service and the German Alpine Association is committed, among other things, to the inclusion of people with disabilities when climbing and hiking together.

At the end of the four-hour competition, there were certificates and gifts for everyone – in keeping with the team spirit.
