The head of Kochler tourism, Daniel Weickel, now presented a comprehensive report to the local council.

Among other things, it was about a new podcast, new projects about King Ludwig II, a possible “tourism forum” and an exhibition on 100 years of the Walchensee power plant.

Kochel am See - Mayor Jens Müller asked Daniel Weickel to present what the tourism department in the Kochel town hall wants to implement this year.

And that's quite a lot, as Weickel said.

He said with confidence: “This will be our year.” For example, a podcast is being developed, which Weickel will implement together with the head of the Lenggrieser Tourist Information, Maria Bader.

“This is not an advertising podcast,” said Weickel.

Rather, we want to explain the background to the locals, introduce facilities and let them “look behind the scenes,” says Weickel.

But tourism policy issues should also be discussed, for example in the areas of tension between transport and mass tourism.

Essentially, the two are concerned with increasing acceptance of tourism among the population.

The two want to present details of the new podcast publicly shortly.

Weickel: “Transparency is important”

The word “transparency” and how important it is to involve locals in developments was mentioned again and again in Weickel’s presentation.

This has not happened enough in the community in recent years.

As an example, Weickel mentioned revitalizing the gastronomy and landlord regulars' table.

The meetings did not take place during the Corona period, and there was also a break in broadcasting afterwards.

Weickel can well imagine that this will become a common get-together.

He also wants to “break up” the landlord regulars’ table, as he explained in more detail in an interview with our newspaper on Wednesday.

The meeting should be open to interested citizens.

"Perhaps you can also give new names, such as 'Tourism Forum'."

More information about King Ludwig II in Kochel

As reported, the Schusterhaus will open as a museum on April 20th.

Weickel has been in discussions with the Kochler Association for Local History for a long time because the plan is for volunteers to offer historical tours of the town.

Kochel has “a historical treasure” that needs to be exploited, enthused Weickel.

But 1,250 years of local history cannot be presented “just like that”.

We are working on gradually taking up new topics here.

In this context, Kochel also continues to rely on the reference to King Ludwig II.

There were a few events about this last year.

“The feedback from visitors was very good and there was nationwide press coverage,” said Weickel.

A themed trail with display boards on which QR codes will be located, ideally also in English, is currently being worked on.

“If costs allow, we would like to make full use of all digital means.” The boards are to be installed at the Herzogstand on the so-called bridle path and in the mountain and valley station areas.

“We also want to talk to the mountain inn,” says Weickel.

They also want to make other aspects about the “Kini” clear.

“For example, what impact it had in Kochel when the king came.”

New magazine from summer

The Tourist Information will publish a new magazine in the summer.

“We want to present the place in a more contemporary way.” It is not only aimed at foreigners, but locals should also benefit from it.

This is also accompanied by a general realignment of advertising materials.

A new website is currently in the works.

In digital, we always have to stay up to date, says Weickel, and so new brochures will be thinner in the future because they only contain general information.

“This saves paper and at the same time we can use them for longer.” There will soon be a new restaurant guide about the community.

The fitness trail will be opening soon

The renovated fitness trail was completed in Kochel last fall.

The community received a lot of support from the Dorst-Löcherer Foundation.

“As soon as the weather permits, the inauguration ceremony will take place,” announces Weickel.

Boards will soon be installed that will also contain a QR code that will take you to exercise videos with Kochler fitness coach Sebastian Jocham.

Jocham has made himself available as a “route manager” for the fitness path and will also be there personally as a coach on certain dates, says Weickel happily.

In 2025, Kochel has been a climatic health resort for 50 years

2025 will be the 50th anniversary of Kochel, Benediktbeuern and Lenggries receiving the title of “climatic health resort”.

In order to get it back, certification is necessary, which is already underway.

It was time-consuming, but the work was “absolutely worth it,” said Weickel.

“After all, everyone benefits from healthy air.” Planning is already underway on how to celebrate the anniversary in 2025, possibly with joint events with Lenggries and Benediktbeuern.

This year, much in Kochel and Walchensee is dedicated to the 100th birthday of the Walchensee power plant.

The tourist information is also included.

An exhibition dedicated to the topics of hydropower and traction current will open in the tourist information gallery at Kochler train station in April.

Volunteers from the Kochler Heimatverein are currently working on this with employees of the power plant operator Uniper.

There will also be an event at the Kochler Heimatbühne as part of the power plant's lecture series: on Friday, April 26th, the underwater archaeologist and "Terra-X" television presenter Florian Huber will speak there.

Starts at 6:30 p.m.
