Alfons Besel or challenger Babette Waxenberger?
This Sunday it will be decided who will take over the mayor's office in Gmund for the next six years.
The polling stations have been open since 8 a.m.
Gmund
- The work for the 60 election workers in Gmund has begun.
Since 8 a.m., citizens have had the opportunity to cast their vote at the polling stations in the elementary school and in the former town hall in Dürnbach.
Incumbent Alfons Besel (FWG) and CSU local chairwoman Babette Waxenberger are up for election as candidates.
Around 4,900 Gmund residents are entitled to vote.
How big the voter turnout will be given the beautiful weather for the excursion remains to be seen.
In the runoff election in 2018 between Besel and his then opponent Franz von Preysing (CSU), voter turnout was just 61.8 percent.
The polling stations in Gmund close at 6 p.m.
Immediately afterwards, the election workers begin counting the votes.
The result shouldn't take too long to arrive: Returning officer Florian Ruml expects to be able to announce the result around 6:30 p.m.
As soon as it is clear who won the race, we will report here.
