100 years ago Hitler was on trial for his attempted coup.

An exhibition in Munich is intended to commemorate the putsch and the subsequent trial.

Munich - From May onwards, an exhibition in the Munich Palace of Justice will commemorate the Hitler Putsch and the subsequent trial against the later dictator.

“The judiciary played an inglorious role back then and did not stop Hitler, even though it was their duty,” said Bavaria’s Justice Minister Georg Eisenreich (CSU) on Sunday (February 25) on the 100th anniversary of the start of the Hitler trial on Monday ( February 26th).

From February 26, 1924, Adolf Hitler had to answer for treason before the Bavarian People's Court after the failed Hitler-Ludendorff Putsch.

Hitler, General Erich Ludendorff and their helpers wanted to overthrow the Weimar Republic from Munich in November 1923; 20 people died in the attempted coup.

On April 1, 1924, Hitler was only sentenced to the minimum sentence of five years, of which he ultimately only had to serve nine months in Landsberg am Lech.

While in prison, Hitler wrote parts of his inflammatory pamphlet “Mein Kampf”.

At the time, the judiciary allowed “Hitler to use the courtroom as a stage for his inhumane propaganda and even profit from it,” said Eisenreich.

The lesson from this for the present must be to combat every form of extremism clearly and decisively from the outset.

“That is why the discussion of the rise of Adolf Hitler is particularly important these days,” said the minister.

It is the second exhibition in the Munich Palace of Justice

A new permanent exhibition on the resistance group “White Rose” has been on display in the Palace of Justice in Munich since last year.

In the new exhibition project on the Hitler trial, the chair, which represents the beginning of the putsch, will be the central motif.

On November 8, 1923, Hitler climbed onto a chair in the Bürgerbräukeller in Munich, fired a shot into the ceiling and announced the overthrow.
