On Friday morning, thick snowflakes fall from the sky on the edge of the Alps.

And not just there.

But the weekend heralds a completely different weather trend in Bavaria.

Munich – Who would have thought that in this historically mild winter?

Thick snowflakes fall from the sky on Friday morning on the edge of the Alps.

It's snowing from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Berchtesgadener Land - and it's falling significantly deeper than forecast by the meteorologists at the German Weather Service (DWD).

These were based on snowfall only above 1000 meters altitude.

Snowfall line drops to around 700 meters - Alpine foothills white

In fact, it snows thickly up to 700 meters above sea level.

At Tegernsee, for example, the first roofs are already white, the trees are covered in sugar and it continues to snow.

The culprit is a thick band of clouds that is currently pushing over the Alps from southwest to northeast.

The snowfall will continue at 2 degrees until the evening, possibly into Saturday night.

It could still snow in the Bavarian Forest.

There are currently no rain or snow clouds, only gray high fog covers eastern Bavaria.

The winter interlude ends at the weekend

If you want to build a snowman in the south, you should hurry up.

There are still lows of plus 1 to minus 1 degrees throughout Bavaria.

But by Saturday morning the winter interlude was already over.

Then we can expect significantly milder temperatures again.

In Nuremberg the highs could reach double digits again.

The DWD expects temperatures of up to 10 degrees in the Franconian metropolis.

The whole thing with a wild mix of sun, clouds and rain.

April weather at the end of February, so to speak.

Not because of winter: at the end of next week it will be 15 degrees again in Bavaria

And then it gets a little warmer every day, always interrupted by sub-zero temperatures at night.

On Sunday the temperatures in Regensburg are already climbing to 12 degrees.

At the end of the week the 15 degree mark could be broken again in Bavaria.
