The Ottobrunn Women's Circle also organized and carried out school meals like the one here in Munich-Giesing in 1947 in its first years.

Unfortunately there is no photo from Ottobrunn.

“There used to be a lot less photography,” says Eva-Maria Stiebler.

The Ottobrunn Women's Association was founded 100 years ago.

After the world wars, women alleviated people's suffering as much as they could.

– Today it is the bazaars at Easter and Christmas that serve a charitable purpose.

The religious aspect was not lost either.

Finally, there were, among other things, pilgrimages that are fondly remembered.

Eva-Maria Stiebler (86) has been involved in organizing since the 1990s, but is now retiring for reasons of age, as she told the Münchner Merkur.

The younger ones are happy to continue the work, especially Mariele Lang.

She is the driving force of the voluntary association.

That's how it all started

In February 1924, 50 women from Ottobrunn came together at the Gasthaus zur Schwaige to found the branch of the German Women's Association, which had existed in Munich since 1904 - one of the first local associations.

In the difficult times after the First World War, the members carried out social and charitable tasks on a voluntary basis.

School meals (soup school) in winter and providing needy children with clothing for their first communion or for starting school were essential.

At the Christmas present distribution in 1926, 62 children received shoes and clothing.

After the world wars, professional institutions took over social and charitable activities.

The Women's Association supported the church with the purchase of a new vestment for mass.

There was also a recent donation to the Church of St. Otto, from which vestments were purchased.

A contribution to the church and piety.

Unforgettable pilgrimages

The pilgrimages to Altötting, Sachrang, Reutberg Monastery or Valley are unforgettable.

The then pastor Anton Zawadke was also very happy to take part in this.

He also came to the celebrations before Christmas or at Mardi Gras.

On these occasions he often had funny stories in his head and recited poems or gave slide shows.

In 2000, the German Women's Association separated and the St. Otto Women's Circle became independent.

The women's group now managed itself independently within the parish.

Younger women have also joined in

Mariele Lang organized the afternoons and the bazaars.

She is the designer of wreaths, flower arrangements and artistic arrangements.

Hildegard Kobler made countless green wreaths for Christmas and Easter.

Younger women have also joined in, so the tradition will continue.

To mark the anniversary, the parish of St. Otto invites you to a drink in the parish hall on Saturday, March 2nd, after mass at 6:30 p.m.
