Highlights: Architect Shir Margolin designed a home for a family of 6 in Ramat Gan, Israel. The family includes a pair of parents and 4 children of different ages. The color palette chosen is limited, but the many colors come from the carefully chosen furniture, from the flower pots placed inside and outside, and from the colorful art placed on the walls. The wall that closes the kitchen is shortened, in order to give more opening of the space and the view, exactly to the dimensions required to close the kitchen in the perfect way.

  • Project:

    Residential apartment in Ramat Gan

  • Area:

    135 square meters

  • The occupants:

a family of 6 - a pair of parents and 4 children including two toddlers and two elementary school age girls

  • Architect:

    Shir Margolin

"The main challenge in the project was to turn a standard, characterless contractor's apartment into the dream home for a large family of 6. The family includes a pair of parents and 4 children of different ages, which required the creation of spacious, comfortable spaces adapted to the diverse needs of each family member."

So says the architect Shir Margolin, who chose a creative and functional approach to redesign the house, while closely cooperating with family members throughout the process.

Before the redesign of Shir Margolin - a standard contractor's apartment/public relations

As part of the renovation, the living room and the kitchen, which are the heart of the house, underwent a significant transformation.

It was decided to give up the standard TV wall that created a buffer between the spaces in order to leave the house open and airy.

The architectural element chosen is the design of a beam from which a screen with a removable projector was lowered only when necessary, thus creating a sense of continuity between the living area and the kitchen, and the apartment looks significantly more spacious and brighter.

The color palette chosen for the house is monochromatic, gentle and calming colors, white curtains that create a feeling of depth and warmth, and white doors from the Pandora company, that create a sense of clean transition between the spaces.

The color palette chosen is indeed limited, but the many colors that come from the carefully chosen furniture, from the flower pots placed inside and outside, and from the colorful art placed on the walls, led to the creation of a clean but rich space.

In order to create a feeling of a large and bright space, the architect chose a white kitchen that blends into the space, against the background of the dark aluminum and the green vegetation seen from the balcony.

The wall that closes the kitchen is shortened, in order to give more opening of the space and the view, exactly to the dimensions required to close the kitchen in the perfect way.

The selection of the furniture was a significant part of the renovation process, as they constitute another and important layer of materiality and aesthetics: from the special Naive Lounge Chair CAMIRE armchairs chosen in a soft pink shade for the central space, to the Island coffee table placed in the center of the living room against the background of a light carpet that borders the area.

For the entrance space, the Valet wall console was chosen as a unique and special center piece, which also allows key storage, with a minimalist look above it and a subtle light fixture.

One of the main challenges was creating efficient storage solutions for the large family.

Before the renovation, the apartment had 3 bathrooms.

In the new design, it was decided to give up one bathroom in favor of turning it into a large warehouse for the many equipment of the family members, which contributed to the general feeling of space in the house, and allowed the family members to store items in a designated space, instead of having to find a place for them in the living space.

The parents' bedroom was designed in a Scandinavian style - calm, cozy and inviting.

We chose delicate wallpaper in a light green shade, and simple and classic furniture.

The most dominant element in the room is the colorful wallpaper on the back of the bed that brings a feeling of vegetation and dreaminess and corresponds colorfully with the wood.

After the renovation, the bedroom feels like a pampering hotel, without giving up the intimate and pleasant feeling.

A wallpaper wall with jungle animals was chosen for the children's room, which gives a lot of color and a warm and dreamy atmosphere.

The wallpaper is minimalistic, with a lot of white area, so it looks like a mural.

The large wall closet stores all the children's clothes and toys, thus keeping order in the room.

Both the little children and the big girls were included in the design of the room.

The architect and the owner of the apartment chose several options of styles, and the children chose from the content so that they felt like partners in the process.

In the end, we chose a concept of low beds that also constitute a living area.

A delicate geometric wallpaper of pink and gold was chosen, which corresponds with the round handles.

As part of the lessons of the corona, a personal work corner was designed, which is covered in oak, and is adjusted exactly to the size of the dimension.

The project ended very successfully, and the standard contractor's apartment became a dream home for the family.

The apartment has become an open, bright, pleasant and inviting space, which perfectly suits the needs of the tenants.

The success of the project was largely due to the fruitful collaboration between the architect and the family.

At the end of the project, the owner of the apartment congratulated the collaboration with the architect: "Shir designs with grace. From the very beginning we knew that our taste was the same, but that was not enough. Shir went down to the smallest details, dug deep, researched, offered a variety of options and did not give up until we reached the perfect solution in every part At home. In addition, Shir was patient, calm, pleasant and knew how to adapt the ideas to our budget. If at the beginning of the process we thought we would use her "in a small way", at the end of the process we came to a situation where there is no pot that we buy for the house without consulting Shir. Recommended +++".
