Tali Friedman proudly carries the title of Chairperson of the Mahane Yehuda Market Merchants Committee to which she was elected in 2019. She is now running for the city council as number 4 on Moshe Leon's list

Tali Friedman, 47 years old, mother of 4, lives in her neighborhood, and studied at the gymnasium and the artists' colony in Mitzpe Ramon.

At the age of 19, she began her studies in Jerusalem majoring in cooking and culinary arts at Hadassah College, and later went to study in Paris to continue specializing in baking and pastry.

In 2009 she opened a studio for the art of cooking in Mahane Yehuda market, one of the pioneers of culinary tours in Mahane Yehuda market and in Israel in general.

In 2010, she was elected to the Mahane Yehuda market's merchant committee, and served as the market spokesperson and responsible for the cultural aspect.

Over the years she became an ambassador of Israeli and Jerusalem cuisine, and even wrote the book "Jerusalem the Culinary Story".

Friedman produced the "Cooking Grandmothers" festival, filmed dozens of cooking programs for the world.

In 2019, she was elected chairman of the Mahane Yehuda market traders' committee, winning an 86% majority, becoming the first woman in the position. Tali, as chairman of the market merchants' committee, tell us what Mahane Yehuda is to you?

"The market for me is everything - home, friends, family, it is a magnificent human mosaic that can only be found in the beating heart of Jerusalem.

There is an amazing mix here and a constant atmosphere of one big family, there is one language among all in the market.

The market is the magical stories spiced up in our history, of all of us, with sounds, aromas and tastes of all sectors and of all denominations and religions.

The best sight of Jerusalem is Mahane Yehuda market.

To measure the pulse of the city, you need to visit the stalls on the market streets.

In the challenging times it will be the place for comfort and encouragement, in the beautiful times - it is not painted with people and joy and it is not colorful.

It is not for nothing that it was chosen as one of the three leading markets in the world, although in my opinion and in the opinion of many, it is in first place, far ahead of everyone else.

What is it like to be a woman in a position in a place that is perceived as very masculine?

"As a woman who has been working for years in a profession that is defined as a male profession in the world - chef, I learned and understood the challenges of living in worlds where people are considered as such. Happily, the extensive experience has taught me that professionalism is always above all else, and the fact that gender is irrelevant if it is made that way, and the elections for the presidency came as evidence The traders' committee of the market, in which I won an 86% majority when I faced three men. As a society, we have the responsibility to shatter the stereotype, and to ensure that women are promoted in all areas of responsibility in society as a whole.

I can proudly say that the merchants of the Mahane Yehuda market succeeded in shattering the stereotype and proving to everyone that gender can and should be irrelevant."

In the upcoming elections, you will run on the "One Jerusalem led by Moshe Leon" list.

How is the inclusion of women in the list?

"Jerusalem One under the leadership of Moshe Leon is an excellent example of how women are treated. 50 percent of the mayor's list for the city council are women, moreover, three women were placed in the top five. Number 2 on his list is Dr. Ronit Akhdot Hodziev HaCohen, Dr. of Medicinal Chemistry Senior lecturer and head of the Department of Sciences and Health Promotion at the David Yelin Academic College of Education/ number 5 on the list, Dr. Naama Berg, owner of Psagot Winery and curator of the Museum of Nature. Attorney Ila Londner, who until recently was a very dominant figure in the office of the previous Minister of Finance.

Advocate Yasmin Nahum, CEO of the Association for Public Health.

The deputy mayor, Peller Hasan-Nahum and Galia Avihil, owns a cafe that is a Jerusalem institution and does a lot for society and the community.

There are women here who are the heart of Jerusalem's action, each one is a figure in her field, each one a soul actress and each one very worthy to serve as a member of the city council and represent the Jerusalem we all love."

How do you see Jerusalem today from a social and cultural point of view?

"Jerusalem has always been Jerusalem One, the Jerusalem of all religions, and of all opinions, a city of an exciting and powerful human mosaic.

In the war, I received proof of the desire and the amazing ability of people in the city to unite and reach out, to volunteer and help.

A few days after its inception, we established an army composed of amazing people in the city that reached soldiers all over the country. There is a charm in Jerusalem and its people that cannot be found in any other city in the

world. Jerusalem has a character that needs to be preserved, since Jerusalem is a challenging city that the eyes of the whole world are always drawn to, this is the Jerusalem that is Home to so many people who create and dream in it. Of course, Jerusalem is also a student city that attracts thousands of students from Israel and the world thanks to the advanced education available in our city from schools, universities, the Academy of Music, Bezalel, Sam Spiegel and many more.

Jerusalem is a city that creates within it a culture and art that is sometimes underground and magical that you will not find in any other city, and of course masterpieces from all fields of art that shine in the entire world."

In conclusion, in two sentences, what would you wish for Jerusalem?

"May it continue to be a city that is a privilege to live in, that will continue to be everyone's, unique, exciting And beloved, it will be a great privilege for me to serve its residents."
