Just always fits.
The sweet and sour taste profile of this brilliantly simple onion jam rounds off all kinds of savory dishes.
Refined with balsamic vinegar, the onion jam goes particularly well with
steak
,
burgers
and
cheese
.
At Christmas it can
be served as a
dip
for
fondue
or
raclette .
Filled into small jars, the onion jam makes an
extraordinary gift
that is guaranteed to surprise.
In the cold season, onion jam warms you better than any onion look and also looks good thanks to its strong red color.
That's how it's done:
You need these ingredients:
1 kg red onions, cut into strips
3 tbsp cooking oil
1 tsp salt
0.5 tsp pepper
100g brown sugar
1 tsp thyme
150 ml balsamic vinegar
100 ml red wine
Preparation is so easy:
Heat oil in a pan.
Season the onions with salt and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft.
Add brown sugar, thyme, balsamic vinegar and red wine and bring everything to the boil.
You're done!
Pour into glasses or enjoy straight away.
Tip
: Even if one kilogram of red onions seems a lot at first glance, you shouldn't use fewer onions.
Steaming already reduces the quantity sufficiently.
Simply tastes great with savory cheese: the onion jam with balsamic impresses with its well-rounded flavor profile of sweetness, acidity and heartiness.
