Former US President Donald Trump tonight (Sunday) defeated the former ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, in the Republican presidential race in South Carolina - and took another step towards a rematch in November against Democratic President Joe Biden.
Trump's victory in the state indicates his great power in the party - since Haley, his opponent, grew up in South Carolina and previously served as its governor.
The former president said immediately after the polls closed that the expected results are "a bigger victory than we expected".
Trump added: "I have never seen the Republican Party so united as it is now, there has never been such a spirit."
