Trump's success in the South Carolina primary is overshadowed by a faux pas.
His political opponents are using the moment to mock the 77-year-old.
Columbia – Donald Trump is still on the march in the Republican primaries: The 77-year-old was also unstoppable in his competitor Nikki Haley's home state of South Carolina.
Almost all votes had already been counted on Sunday and the former US president is clearly leading his rival.
But apparently not everything went well for Trump in the preliminary vote for the 2024 US election.
Videos are currently making the rounds on the Internet that show an embarrassing faux pas by the Republican.
Donald Trump's victory speech in the South Carolina primary fails - family members forgotten
The polling stations closed in the state of South Carolina on Saturday at 7 p.m. (local time).
It quickly became clear that Donald Trump would also triumph in the fourth primary for the US election.
This was first reported by the
AP
news agency and
CNN
.
Possibly euphoric by his success, the Republican began an acceptance speech.
The 77-year-old introduced most of his family to the assembled audience - and, according to US media, read the names from a note.
As
Newsweek
summarizes, during his victory speech in South Carolina, Trump said, "May I introduce you to some incredible people?" He then continued, "Because they've stuck with it from the beginning [...] and they believe Make America Great Again.
We put America first.” The former US president then listed his most important family members, but did not mention his son Eric Trump and wife Lara Trump.
However, both family members were on stage right next to the election winner.
Ridiculous after the South Carolina primary: Trump is “senile” and suffering from “cognitive decline.”
Trump's mistake in listing his family members after winning South Carolina quickly became a laughing stock.
Several accounts on X, formerly Twitter, seized on the moment of the speech and mocked the former US president.
An account campaigning for US President Joe Biden joked: “Donald Trump is so senile that he forgot two family members when he read it.
Retweet to showcase Trump's cognitive decline." Trump making mistakes in performances is not uncommon.
Just a few days ago, Trump falsely wanted to flood Washington with crime.
Other users also made fun of the former US president and questioned Trump's health.
Mental health and physical fitness have long been the most polarizing
Candidates for the 2024 US election in focus.
Trump regularly uses Joe Biden's appearances as an opportunity to deny the US President's competency for another term in office because of his health.
However, the Republican himself is repeatedly in the public eye - among other things because of red spots on his hands.

Trump should change his election campaign strategy after South Carolina: the main target is Joe Biden
With a view to the upcoming Super Tuesday in March, Trump was asked by several advisors to adjust his rhetoric at campaign events.
As
NBC News
writes, the 77-year-old should focus less on personal attacks against Nikki Haley and instead focus on attacking President Joe Biden and uniting the Republican Party.
The probable reason for the strategy: After Trump's victory in the primary election in South Carolina, leading party members rule out that there is still serious competition from the Republican ranks - Trump must therefore now devote himself to other issues.
