Millions of “Tatort” fans regularly watch in front of their screens as each team of investigators solves exciting murder cases.
But now there is harsh criticism.
That's what ARD says about it.
Berlin – Employer President Rainer Dulger (60) expressed criticism of ARD’s “crime scene” concept during a symposium.
He complained that Sunday evening crime shows often portrayed entrepreneurs as perpetrators.
He sees this circumstance as damaging to the reputation of employers.
ARD “Tatort”: Entrepreneurial allegations from employer president Rainer Dulger
A symposium with well-known guests took place on Rainer Dulger's 60th birthday, including Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Dulger used this platform to address his concerns about the increasing distrust of entrepreneurs and economists.
He particularly criticized the negative image of entrepreneurs, which, according to him, is also influenced by TV crime dramas.
The negative image is hard on the Heidelberg native.
Especially in the “Tatort” series, entrepreneurs and managers are often portrayed as perpetrators.
A study from 2017, which analyzed over 1,000 “Tatort” episodes, supports his statement: entrepreneurs were the most frequently portrayed perpetrators in the series.
“Tatort” criticism: ARD speaks out
A spokesman for the ARD program directorate responded to the criticism by saying that the actions of the “crime scene” are located in a wide variety of social milieus and do not specifically attack specific professional or population groups.
He emphasized that the aim is not to establish a fixed image of certain groups in the public or to make blanket judgments.

For the ARD spokesman, the aim of Sunday thrillers is to address socially relevant topics, although the murder cases would certainly not disproportionately come at the expense of entrepreneurs.
Prominent criticism of the “crime scene” was recently made by Nastassja Kinski, who wants to have an unclothed youth scene banned.
