Grain shipments from Ukraine are apparently repeatedly sabotaged by farmers in Poland.

An expert and a minister are beside themselves at X.

Gdansk - In the Ukraine war they give hope: the grain deliveries from the battered country.

They are intended to alleviate hunger in poorer areas of the world and at the same time keep the Ukrainian economy running while Russia continues to attack it.

Grain from Ukraine: Sabotage on Polish train route to Gdansk

For example, through missile and drone attacks that violate international law against the Danube ports of Reni and Izmail, where many grain warehouses are located.

Because transport by ship through the Black Sea is very dangerous, many cargoes of grain are transported in transit by train through the neighboring country's territory.

But: This weekend there was once again sabotage of grain transport on train routes in Poland.

On Sunday (February 25th), a video made the rounds on social media showing tens of tons of grain being dumped out of wagons, in which the gates of the train wagons were opened on the open road.

It was not known on Sunday evening where the new incident occurred.

Protests in Poland: Farmers prevent grain shipments from Ukraine

What is certain, however, is that it is not the first incident of this kind. The train with the grain was on its way to the Polish port of Gdansk, from where the grain was apparently supposed to be shipped across the Baltic Sea.

Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov wrote on X (formerly Twitter) in a tweet:

“These images show 160 tons of destroyed Ukrainian grain.

The grain was to be transported to the port of Gdańsk and then to other countries.

The fourth case of vandalism at Polish train stations.

The fourth case of impunity and irresponsibility.

How long will the government and Polish police allow this vandalism to continue?

Here too, all these agricultural products are transported in sealed wagons and are in transit to other countries.

We strictly adhere to the laws.

And you?"

Ukraine: Grain and corn transports are very important for the national economy

Already on February 20, Polish farmers had opened Ukrainian freight wagons with grain at the Medyka border crossing, blocking the tracks on the strategically important railway line.

According to the German Press Agency (dpa),

the action was

also intended to serve as a protest against the agricultural policy of the European Union (EU).

Following demonstrations by Polish farmers, Ukraine is no longer importing grain into its western neighbor.

The well-known security policy expert Nico Lange wrote in an article on X: “It is a shame that Ukrainian grain from trains continues to be destroyed in Poland.

The Polish government must restore the rule of law and the EU should support this.”

For example, Ukraine, which is heavily agricultural, exports millions of tons of corn from its huge grain stores, which accounts for around half of total grain exports.

But also wheat (about a quarter), sunflower seeds (about ten percent) and other agricultural products.

According to the Council of the European Union, around two thirds of wheat goes to developing countries.
