In the first episode of the new season on Vox, star chef Tim Mälzer reaches his limits.
Because so much goes wrong in the duel against offal chef Richard Rauch, he draws harsh conclusions.
Hamburg – Not a good start to the season for the Hamburg star chef.
In a duel with his Austrian colleague Richard Rauch (38), Tim Mälzer (53) flies to the Azores and despairs of his task.
Although the jury is merciful in the end, he does not accept their verdict.
Tim Mälzer underestimates the cooking time in Portugal in “Kitchen Impossible”.
The celebrity chef is actually known for his raw honesty.
He recently embarrassed himself in a broadcast because he didn't know Tagesschau spokesman Constantin Schreiber.
During his new challenge for “Kitchen Impossible,” the otherwise loud maltster becomes completely quiet.
On the Portuguese archipelago, he is supposed to recreate the traditional dish “Cozido das Furnas,” which is simmered over hot sulfur springs for several hours.
Typically included are cabbage, potatoes, carrots, pork, beef and chicken as well as sausages.
Mälzer calls it in summary: “Azurian slaughter platter with vegetables.” His task: The meat and vegetables should be cooked together in a pot for seven hours.
For the Portuguese, it's a Sunday feast that takes a lot of time to prepare.
For Mälzer, this is a hurdle that he underestimates.
He only plans six hours instead of seven and ends up with undercooked mud.
“Oh come on, stop the snot!” he acknowledges his failure.
“I don't serve that.” However, he already knows that he doesn't want any evaluation and would rather get zero points.
However, he and chef Válter Viera (43) decide to cook everything again in the restaurant.
“Kitchen Impossible” jury feels sorry for Tim Mälzer
Portugal is just one stop on the show; before that, Mälzer went to Austria, the home of his opponent.
The jury's test eaters gave him at least seven points for his unsuccessful Azores dish.
Mälzer refuses and sticks to his decision to punish himself with zero points.
He loses the duel against Richard Rauch with 5.5 to 13.2 points.
His opponent in the opening episode of the ninth season is no stranger and certainly remains a memorable memory for Mälzer.
In season two of “Kitchen Impossible,” Mälzer visited Rauch’s restaurant “Geschwister Rauch,” which he runs with his sister in Bad Gleichenberg, Austria.
To his horror, Tim Mälzer had to cook bull testicles.

Since 2015, “Kitchen Impossible” has been running on Vox in primetime Sunday evening programming.
The concept: Two prominent chefs compete against each other and have to recreate each other's local cuisine.
However, the exact list of ingredients is not revealed and must first be tasted blindly from a sample meal.
Mälzer's most famous guests included Johann Lafer (66), Roland Trettl (52) and the British star chef Jamie Oliver (48).
