Los Angeles – “Star Trek” actor Kenneth Mitchell died on Sunday (February 24) in Studio City.
His family announced this on Instagram.
The Hollywood star was only 49 years old.
It had been known for a long time that he suffered from the nervous disease ALS.
In addition to the series “Star Trek: Discovery”, Mitchell also became known for the blockbuster “Captain Marvel”.

The “Stark Trek” actor reports on his illness on Instagram
The actor is originally from Canada.
Pictures on Instagram have shown him in a wheelchair for several years.
Five years ago he made his ALS illness public.
“Hello community.
“It’s time to share the unfortunate news that I’m living with ALS,” he wrote on Instagram at the time.
And further: “My body is collapsing inch by inch.” The Hollywood star has not been able to speak since the summer of 2021.
What is ALS?
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a serious disease of the central and peripheral nervous system.
Their cause is still unknown.
Initial symptoms may include muscle wasting and weakness as well as muscle twitching.
The disease usually progresses slowly and spreads to other parts of the body.
ALS is not curable.

Kenneth Mitchell was still in Star Trek when he was already in a wheelchair
Numerous fans of the actor expressed their support under the post.
His four roles in “Star Trek” in particular helped him gain a large fan base.
He played a Klingon several times in it.
Even when he was already dependent on a wheelchair, he appeared in the series - the character he played used a so-called hoverchair.
Aside from “Star Trek”, Mitchell played an astronaut (The Astronaut Wives Club) and an apocalypse survivor (Jericho – The Attack).
The star leaves behind his wife, 50-year-old actress Susan May Pratt, and their two children, ages 12 and 17.
The family has set up a Gofundme account to collect donations.
The actor's illness was a great financial burden, she writes there.
