Sitting in a gray office every day?

This is not for everyone.

It's a good thing that Munich has what are probably Bavaria's most beautiful workplaces!

Here we introduce you to very special jobs that are currently available.

Walking across elegant parquet floors, under glittering chandeliers, past magnificent tapestries and the royal gallery of beauties: anyone who works in Nymphenburg Palace has a wonderful place to work - and there is actually a vacancy there right now!

We are currently looking for a castle supervisor (m/f/d) for April 1st.

Such a person is basically a “museum guard,” explains Johannes Hamberger (54), castellan at Nymphenburg Castle.

“He or she has to make sure that visitors behave properly in the museum rooms and that the history is protected.” Don’t lean on the golden door, don’t touch the fine porcelain – a castle supervisor pays attention to these things in a friendly manner and is the contact person for visitor questions there.

There is a decent salary in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement in the public sector - and the elegant uniform on top of that.

Among other things, it is expected that he or she speaks German and English well, also works on weekends and has good manners.

Rosa Maria Flores Rodríguez already has that job.

“I am very happy with my position as a supervisor at the Marstallmuseum and Nymphenburg Palace,” she says.

“It is a particularly great pleasure for me to exchange ideas with the many international visitors.

My colleagues also come from very different countries, and I am very happy about the great collaboration and intercultural exchange.” 13 of our own castle supervisors and two cashiers are currently among the employees at Nymphenburg Palace.

Incidentally, Hamberger got his title “Castellan” by chance; he previously worked in retail.

The now 54-year-old applied, and the castle has now been his place of work for 16 years - “one of the most beautiful in Bavaria,” as the job advertisement for castle overseer says.

“The nicest thing is in the morning when I open the door and there are no visitors yet,” says Hamberger.

When he walks through the historic rooms, the “old scent” in his nose, the light falling through the large windows onto the beautiful historic rooms - then the castellan especially loves his work.

A heart for animals: Jobs are also available in Hellabrunn

The Isar floodplains in Thalkirchen are one of the most idyllic places in Munich - thousands of Munich residents and tourists spend a great time in the zoo every day.

What must it be like to work in Hellabrunn?

Anyone who has trained as an animal keeper can currently apply there - men and women with this training are being sought as soon as possible.

Their tasks include caring for animals, monitoring their diet and health or even participating in the “breeding and rearing of the animals”.

Of course, cleaning out is also part of it.

But which animals are you responsible for?

Do you then become a “monkey carer” or “panda carer”?

No, says Sophia Zimmerling from Munich Zoo.

No areas of application or animals are explicitly mentioned in the job advertisements.

“Depending on their professional experience, new colleagues are assigned to their new job opportunities after consultation,” explains Zimmerling.

“This also offers the advantage of being able to help out in another area.” However, later deployment in a specific team is possible – depending on qualifications and staffing levels.

For example, in the “Predators” team: Then you can take care of the big and small big cats and animals.

Whether it's a lynx, tiger or panda bear: you might even become a lion keeper!

Luisa Welzel (23) has landed a great job in Hellabrunn: She is currently training to be a zookeeper there and is currently taking care of the “medical training” for a maned seal.

“I like my apprenticeship because it is a demanding, hands-on job,” she says.

It is actively and directly about “species protection, animal welfare and sustainability”.

The police cavalry squad is looking for a stable master

Their size alone makes them awe-inspiring: When the horses of the Munich Police Equestrian Squadron are out on patrol with their uniformed riders - in the English Garden, at football games or, most recently, at the Siko - then rioters keep their distance, then de-escalate dangerous situations.

36 officers on horses belong to the cavalry squadron.

And there is now a senior position to be filled in this task force: The Munich police are looking for a stable master!

As “leader of the horse care team,” he or she is expected to do the following, among other things: “In-depth knowledge of horse care, animal welfare regulations and veterinary science,” according to the job advertisement.

Important: This is not a job as a police officer, but rather a position as a trained stable master - a training job.

Christian Moser from the riding squad explains what is special about the job: “Riding is simply part of the job,” he says.

The stable master spends a significant part of his work on the horse: “Because the animals always have to be moved,” says Moser.

In addition, the stable master must be very knowledgeable about horses in general - so he or she also takes care of viewing and selecting new animals for the squadron - around four new horses come to the Munich police every year.

The stable master should also be able to handle personnel management.

There are eight horse grooms and a deputy stable master under him.

How about a job as a mermaid trainer?

When Daniela Pfuisi (40) opens her eyes underwater and sees the many colorful fins gliding through the pool, she feels like she's in another world: "It's a total fantasy moment, completely crazy," says the social worker.

She experiences these moments almost every Sunday, it's basically part of her job.

Pfuisi is a mermaid trainer.

I'm sorry, what?

She founded the Munich Mermaid Swimming School around ten years ago.

She mainly teaches girls and young women, but also boys, in courses to swim like “real” mermaids.

To do this, they put colorful plastic/fabric fins with scales over their legs that extend to their stomach.

“This requires a special swimming movement; the momentum comes from the hips,” explains Pfuisi.

She teaches this to the participants in her training.

Pfuisi is still looking for support for this - in the form of part-time workers on a 450 euro basis.

What is most important is that the person “is able to lead a group,” explains Pfuisi.

A course consists of around ten participants.

The rest, like the correct swimming technique, can be learned...

Information - also for the next free courses in the Salesianum swimming pool at St. Wolfgangsplatz in Haidhausen or in the Aquariush adventure pool in Unterschleißheim - is available at: https://meerjungfrauenschwimmschule.com/
