Actress and comedian Amy Schumer has opened up about a recent health diagnosis, after users on social media questioned why her face seemed "more swollen" during the promotional tour for the new season of the series Life

& Beth

.

Schumer revealed that he suffers from Cushing's syndrome, a condition caused by having too much of the hormone cortisol for a long time, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Symptoms include a rounded face, a lump of fat between the shoulders, and pink or purple stretch marks on the skin.

It can also

cause high blood pressure, bone loss, and type 2 diabetes

, according to the Mayo Clinic.

"When I was on camera during the press tour for my Hulu show, I was also in MRI machines for four hours straight, with my veins collapsing from the amount of blood taken and thinking I wouldn't survive to see my son grow up." Schumer said on Friday in an edition of  Jessica Yellin's

"So finding out that I have the type of Cushing's that will resolve on its own and I'm healthy is the best news possible," he added.

Schumer, who has previously spoken of suffering from endometriosis, told Yellin that criticism about her appearance while promoting her new show on the Hulu platform helped her realize that "something was wrong."

On February 15, in a post on the social network Instagram in which she addressed the criticism, Schumer told her fans that "there were some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now, but I'm fine."

"It's been a crazy couple of weeks for me and my family," the comedian told Yellin.

"Apart from fears for my health, I had to be on camera and have the Internet give its opinion, but thank God for that because that's when I realized something was wrong. The Internet is undefeated, as they say."

Treatment for Cushing syndrome focuses on lowering the amount of cortisol in the body and may include surgery, radiation treatment and medications, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Schumer said she wanted to share her diagnosis publicly because she wants to "advocate for women's health."

"I want women to love themselves and be relentless when they have to fight for their health in a system that usually doesn't believe them," she said.
