The opening of the Asam building in Freising still has to wait.
That is why the premiere of a symphonietta composed especially for the Asam is now taking place in the Luitpoldhalle.
Freising
– Those responsible had imagined everything in the most beautiful colors: the opening of the Asam building was supposed to start with a very special musical treat.
One that was composed specifically for the Asam, a work with which the magic of the Asam frescoes was intended to be set to music and described musically.
The composition written by Martin Keeser is ready: The Asam Sinfonietta is just waiting to finally be heard publicly.
The big but: The venue that is actually the center of everyone's attention, the Asam, will not be ready on time.
The date is being held - but in Luitpoldanlage
At the mayor's monthly press conference on Monday morning, the protagonists were still full of anticipation for April 7th: the Freising music school is sticking to the date for the premiere of the special work.
Just now somewhere else – namely in the Luitpoldhalle.
“It was actually designed for the Asamtheater opening, but it was important to us to finally bring the Asam Sinfonietta for large orchestra to the stage,” explained Odilo Zapf, the head of the Freising music school.
The commissioned work was inspired by the now deceased former cultural officer for the city of Freising, Hubert Hierl, on the occasion of the opening ceremonies.
“It is a piece that I composed in the hope of being able to premiere it at Asam,” explained Martin Keeser.
He put a lot of heart and soul into it and, as he said at the press conference, he was “a little bit sad” that it won’t be heard at Asam for the first time.
“But we are making the best of it and it will still be very nice,” says Martin Keeser, looking forward to April 7th with confidence.
Two concerts in one day
Traditionally, the music school concert takes place together with the city of Freising and the Rotary Club - once at 11 a.m. and once at 5 p.m.
Tickets are available at the music school office.
In the first part, the concert guests are supposed to experience the Asam Sinfonietta, a kind of musical exhibition that aims to show them some facets of the author's musical expression, as Zapf summarized it.
The work was created specifically for the Freising Symphony Orchestra and is conducted by Jacob Burzin.
In the second part, Edward Elgar's Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra, one of the most famous works of musical Romanticism, will be performed, as Zapf announced.
The young Freising cellist Daniel Kuen will interpret Elgar's last great work - conducted by Martin Keeser.
The start is in the hands of the youth string orchestra “ensemble stringendo” under the direction of Ursula Bongard.
The net proceeds from the two concerts go to social projects of the Rotary Club.
And even though the premiere at the Asam didn't work out, Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher still had good news: "The city is planning to end the Korbinians year in the fall with the Asam Sinfonietta - this time at the Asam."
