The atmosphere was electric and sometimes violent on Monday around the Council building in Brussels.
As hundreds of tractors blocked the European Quarter of the Belgian capital, tires were set on fire and manure was dumped, EU agriculture ministers met again to try to calm the discontent peasant who has been shaking Europe since the beginning of the year.
Upon their arrival, the Member States' envoys made no secret of their expectations of the Commission.

for our agriculture and our rural environment.
Faced with a major European challenge, a major response from the European Union is necessary
,” insisted Spaniard Luis Planas Puchades, while major demonstrations also took place in Madrid on Monday.
