Many people probably dream of winning the lottery.
But it can also have negative effects.
A couple from Great Britain fell apart because of it.
Spalding – A well-known saying goes: “Friendship ends with money.”
Apparently this also sometimes applies to love, at least a case from Great Britain suggests this.
There, a former couple from Spalding, a town in the county of Lincolnshire in the east of England, is fighting over a million-dollar lottery win.
This was denied to another “lucky person” due to a mistake.
Michael Cartlidge and Charlotte Cox have a bitter argument over a scratch card that won the jackpot.
Because she doesn't want to give her ex-boyfriend any of the winnings of one million British pounds (equivalent to almost 1.16 million euros).

The 39-year-old Brit feels betrayed by his former partner, as
reported in the
Sun.
“I’m shocked,” he told the tabloid.
Just a few weeks after winning the lottery, Cox separated from Cartlidge.
The Englishman claimed that the couple had already made plans together about what they could do with the million-dollar sum.

“We talked about buying a new house,” he said: “And she wanted a new car, nothing fancy.” After the draw, the couple had their million-dollar winnings confirmed at the local lottery shop and received a winning ticket.
It said that the “player should contact the lottery department.”
Ex-boyfriend demands half of lottery winnings of 1.16 million euros – “morally it should be paid out 50:50”
The Brit admitted that his ex-girlfriend bought the scratch card that hit the million-dollar jackpot.
Still, Cartlidge believes he is entitled to half of the winnings: “I know it was her bank account that paid for it, but morally it should be paid out 50:50.”
Allegedly, when he bought the ticket, he promised his girlfriend at the time that he would transfer the money to her.
Because she “didn’t have any money for scratch cards.”
“I didn’t have my bank card with me,” said the Brit as an explanation for why he didn’t buy the lottery ticket himself.
According to his statements, Cox initially agreed that the profits would be shared.

However, Cox contradicted her ex-boyfriend's statements in the
Sun
: "I bought the scratch card.
He didn't transfer any money to me.
This is all nonsense, I don’t want anything to do with it.”
Her ex also accused the 37-year-old of breaking up with him “out of nowhere” after she had won the lottery.
Cox told him through a friend that he should “leave the house.”
That seemed “suspicious” to him.
So he moved out, but simply took the winning card with him.
Lottery company speaks out: only the “person whose name is on the scratch card” gets the prize.
However, the British lottery company Camelot UK Lotteries sees the situation clearly: only the person who turns out to be the owner of the scratch card is entitled to the prize.
“The National Lottery rules for scratch cards make it clear that only one person can be the owner of a ticket and that only the person whose name and address appears on the back of a winning scratch card can claim a prize,” it said in a statement.
Camelot had even launched an investigation into the dispute and examined surveillance camera footage.
Nevertheless, it remained the same: Only Cox gets the million-dollar prize; her ex-boyfriend has no claim to it.
It is possible to make a legal agreement to share profits.
But: “If there is no agreement, all disputes between the parties must be resolved.” Meanwhile, winning the lottery jackpot worth millions did not bring any luck to another couple either.
