Gas has been leaking from the tank of a company in Hadamar since Monday morning.
So far, all repair attempts by technicians have failed.
This has consequences for numerous residents.
Hadamar - After a gas leak on a company site in Hadamar on Monday, residents from the exclusion zone around the scene of the accident were unable to return to their homes in the evening.
The evacuation situation will have to remain in place overnight because all attempts to seal the tank by safety engineers initially failed, a city spokeswoman said on Monday evening.
The work had to be interrupted due to darkness and would continue on Tuesday.
The exclusion zone covers a radius of around 300 meters around the company premises.
Around 560 residents are registered there.
Those who cannot stay with friends or acquaintances can spend the night in a multi-purpose hall, said the spokeswoman.
She was initially unable to estimate how many people took advantage of the offer.
In the afternoon there were around 40 people in the hall.
The company is located in the Niederzeuzheim district, Hadamar is in the Limburg-Weilburg district.
According to the emergency services' assessment, there is no acute risk of explosion in the tank; measurements are being carried out constantly, said the spokeswoman.
The leak was reported around 11 a.m. and may have been due to a faulty valve.
According to initial findings, there is propane gas in the tank.
