EwaldNeighbor (76) has been working in radio and television technology for 50 years.

Now the technician, who is popular in Erding and Eitting, has received the rare honor of the Golden Master Certificate.

Eitting/Erding

– EwaldNeighbor is familiar with transistor radios and tube televisions as well as the most modern DAB devices or flat screens.

Over the past half century, radio and television technology has made a real quantum leap.

And always in tune with the times: Taschak, by whose nickname the 76-year-old is known.

He is one of the few who can be awarded the Golden Master's Certificate for 50 years of master craftsmanship.

And the master radio and television technician is still active in his own business.

After many years in Erding, he is now in Eitting with his shop.

Almost 60 years of professional experience, including more than five decades as a master: Tschak has a lot to tell here.

Reason enough to pay him a visit.

He came to his profession by chance.

In 1960, a neighbor discovered old radios in the attic of the castle restaurant in Kronwinkl (Landshut district), which his parents Martha and Johann ran.

The boy enjoyed tinkering with the devices.

After graduating from secondary school, he began training with the radio doctor in Landshut on September 1, 1963.

In 1965 he moved to Radio Frei in Erding.

In the course of this, he received his master's degree in 1975.

In 1977 he opened his own shop on Almfeldstrasse together with his wife Ingeborg.

In 1993 the company moved to Münchner Straße 40, where the couple bought the commercial unit.

There was reinforcement from a technician and his son Alexander.

IngeborgNeighbor acted as a specialist advisor and was also the kind soul.

It went on like this for years and the business flourished.

In order to have more time together, the two gave up their flourishing business in Erding in 2021 and started looking for smaller rooms.

Finding a small shop in Erding seemed impossible.

It failed due to excessively high rental prices or a lack of parking in front of the store.

And so Tschak's neighbor remembered his old home in Eitting.

In 1964 his parents took over the former Jägerwirt.

He also played football for FC Eitting.

He quickly accepted Rosa and Max Heimbeck's offer to rent their former grocery store on St.-Georg-Straße.

He has been a neighbor in Eitting since 2021.

After the death of his wife last year, he ran his small shop alone.

There he advises his customers or repairs equipment in the morning.

As soon as the light comes on in the morning, Eittingers like to stop by the sociable Tschak for a bit of advice.

Humorous anecdotes from his life are then available for free.

Like meeting Thomas Gottschalk in 1981 on the plane from Berlin back from the radio exhibition to Munich.

Tschak carefully collects autographs, newspaper clippings and images in his folders.

He is particularly proud of the mention in Monika Gruber's biography.

On page 205 it is written in black and white that in Erding you just go to “TV Tschak”.

Speaking of Tschak or Jack: He got the nickname in the eighth grade in Landshut.

In the afternoon he is out and about making deliveries or taking care of on-site repairs.

He is not afraid of competition from or the Internet.

“I'm just one of the old breed.

It doesn't work without service and customer service.

And if it’s necessary, I’ll come to my customers on Saturday and get the TV back in working order,” emphasizes Neighbour.

The old master would also like to get devices from yesteryear back on the road again, “but unfortunately there are often no spare parts for them anymore,” says Tschak regretfully.

Neighbor is far from thinking about quitting.

“I don’t want to leave my customers hanging.

And I want to experience the golden wedding anniversary of my business,” he reveals.

That would then be around three years.

“And I’ll keep it up.

Because I need a task.

And I found it here.”
