The city of Starnberg sees great potential for expanding the hospital around the existing clinic location on Oßwaldstrasse.

The city council's building committee was recently talking about almost four hectares.

Starnberg - The future of the Starnberg clinic is one of the hottest topics in district politics against the backdrop of Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach's planned hospital reform.

The city of Starnberg has now determined where and how much expansion potential there is for the existing hospital on Oßwaldstrasse.

Mayor Patrick Janik wanted this to be understood as a “handout to the district” at the meeting of the city council’s building committee on Thursday evening.

In total, the maximum amount of additional space that could be made available is almost four hectares.

As Nicola Gotthardt-de Caluwé from city planning in the town hall explained, there are around 4,100 square meters of expansion area southeast of the existing clinic towards Hanfelder Straße, around 2,500 square meters north of the clinic directly on Oßwaldstrasse and around 4,000 square meters in the area of the current parking deck, also in the north .

These are already included in the legally binding development plan 8177A.

Expansion area of almost four hectares

The administration has identified additional space potential of around 8,500 square meters in the area of today's park in the south of the area towards Fuchsengraben/Prinz-Karl-Straße.

These are exclusively areas with relatively flat terrain, explained Gotthardt-de Caluwé.

The two parking spaces located south of the employee apartments as well as two properties on Prinz-Karl-Straße, at the corner of Zeppelinpromenade and Lenbachstraße, are also conceivable for possible expansion.

These are currently undeveloped and are used as garden areas.

In total, these areas and the parking spaces, including the lush green areas around them, total around 19,400 square meters.

All in all, the city administration has identified around 38,500 square meters, or 3.85 hectares, of potential expansion areas.

“I think there is potential in district-owned areas alone,” said Janik after the presentation.

In addition to new areas, Ludwig Jägerhuber (CSU) also brought the utilization of existing areas into play.

“When I look at the existing building, there is still room for future development, even at a higher level,” he said.

In any case, there is “a lot of urban development potential” to accommodate the clinic and the district, emphasized Jägerhuber.

Christiane Falk (SPD) described it as “extraordinary” that there is such potential in the inner city.

“This is a clear signal to the district,” she emphasized.

Green Party leader Dr.

Franz Sengl has already promised “all support” to keep the clinic in Starnberg, but also noted that this could be difficult.

The future remains open for now

The background to all considerations is the hospital reform, the current status of which District Administrator Stefan Frey informed the city council in a public meeting at the end of January (we reported).

Because much of the reform is still unclear, the district put the construction of a new hospital in Herrsching with around 200 beds on hold last year.

Nevertheless, the district already has 20,000 square meters of land at the entrance to the town on Seefelder Straße and is seeking agreements for a further 25,000 square meters.

It is currently completely unclear whether the legislature will approve the strategy of a clinic network with two locations - Starnberg and Herrsching - or whether it will result in a central clinic with 500 or more beds and, if so, where this will be built.

Frey had explained that all property options in the district had to be secured in order to achieve the goal of a primary care hospital.

The question was: “Which property is best suited for the space and function of a key provider according to the future technical specifications?” Frey said in January.

In addition, there is the fact that the Starnberg house will have to be completely renovated in the foreseeable future, as clinic boss Dr.

Thomas Weiler has already announced.

At an event organized by the Starnberg CSU three weeks ago, Weiler explained that the clinic's three ward buildings would be gradually renovated.

“Then we have to close 105 beds and only have 200 beds available over a period of ten years.” There is no timetable for this yet.
