New building plans in the south of Munich would mean the end of an Italian restaurant.
District politicians see the dilemma.
Munich – The new buildings will create “urgently needed, affordable living space” in Fürstenried, according to the district committee (BA).
Five eight-story point buildings with around 175 barrier-free residential units are to be built around the junction of Basler Strasse and Züricher Strasse.
Point houses are multi-story houses with a staircase in the middle.
In addition to two above-ground parking pallets in existing underground car parks, a daycare center is being planned.
And that would have consequences for “Da Antonio”.
The plans stipulate that the building of the Italian restaurant and bowling alley must be demolished to make room for the childcare center.
District Committee 19 (Thalkirchen-Obersendling-Forstenried-Fürstenried-Solln) has signaled its consent with regard to the present application for a preliminary ruling.
It was submitted by the municipal housing company Gewofag, which is now combined with GWG to form “Münchner Wohnen”.
The development takes into account the neighborhood to the east of Züricher Straße, which is characterized by single-family and terraced houses.

Nevertheless, the loss of the “Da Antonio” would mean a “significant loss for the district,” the district committee recorded in the minutes of its meeting on February 6, 2024: “This would mean that it would have a restaurant with evening opening hours and attractive offers for the citizens lose.
The district committee therefore asks to examine whether there are options in the area of new buildings, preferably on Basler Strasse, for this or a new restaurant.”

The “Da Antonio” has been welcoming guests on Basler Straße since 2007.
How long the wood stove can remain in operation remains unclear, explains Ludwig Weidinger (CSU) when asked by our editorial team.
“Before we get started, planning applications still need to be submitted.

Replacement location for Italian restaurant?

The district committee has not yet contacted the operator of the Osteria.
“The rental agreement is a private law matter between Münchner Wohnen and the tenant,” says Weidinger.
He dampens hopes that a new location for the restaurant can be found quickly.

“Sicilians like to eat and drink and are always in the mood to party,” writes “Da Antonio” on its homepage.
It initially remained unclear how operator Antonio Sorce would deal with the new building plans.
The restaurateur did not initially respond to a request from our editorial team.
