The macadamia nut harvest season is just beginning in Kenya.
In the processing factory of TenSenses, the Kenyan subsidiary of Pamoja, employees are busy: men carry heavy bags of nuts into an overheated airlock, women juggle cracked nuts, observe them, separate them.
Soon, at the peak of the season, the workforce at this Nairobi-based factory will increase from 150 to 400 employees.
Macadamia nuts are transported from different purchasing centers in the Mount Kenya region.
They are first dried, then shelled before being sorted according to size and quality.
Finally, these are packaged in packs of around ten kilos, ready to be exported.
The nuts are certified organic, and their traceability proven.

After two difficult years, the walnut market is slowly but surely recovering.
Macadamia in particular, considered a luxury product, has suffered greatly from inflation in Europe and the United States…
