Maria set off for school and didn't get there - shortly afterwards the helicopter and dog team were deployed.

The student was looking for a large contingent.

Geretsried – A large-scale search for missing persons came to a happy end on Monday afternoon.

Previously, a large contingent of police, fire brigade and BRK were out and about on forest paths and walking routes.

Rescue dog teams searched the south of Geretsried.

A helicopter was making circles over the northern district.

The search was for 13-year-old Maria.

The Geretsried woman left her parents' house early in the morning to go to school.

She didn't get there.

Mixed-breed dog Maja found the girl: This is how the search for missing Maria (13) went

Maria was seen at 7 a.m.

Then she left her home.

The 13-year-old should go to the school bus, which picks her up every day and takes her to a special school.

Maria has a learning disability.

But the transport service waited in vain for the young person: Maria was not at the stop on the way to school.

Her parents were looking for the 13-year-old in the area around the apartment in Geretsried's Stein district.

Parents initially searched alone: They couldn't find their daughter

“After the concerned parents had first searched the surrounding area themselves, they filed a missing person report,” the police wrote around midday - that’s when the uniformed officers in turn issued a missing person report.

Maria was searched for on foot, with helicopters and with sniffer dogs from various rescue dog teams.

At around 1:20 p.m., BRK operations manager Thomas Schnubel spoke to our newspaper.

He reported on many teams using dogs to search for Maria.

They traveled in designated quadrants and searched for forests and excursion destinations - Maria likes to be in nature, as the police reported.

The good weather made the search increasingly difficult for the dog handlers: “There are a lot of people out and about,” explained the BRK employee.

This would allow the animals to smell many human smells at once.

Maria (13) wanted to go to school - and didn't get there

A short time later, Schnubel was able to announce the good news: Maria had been found.

The 13-year-old was in a forest between Königsdorf and her home in Geretsried.

“A search dog and the associated team found her there.” The dog – the mongrel’s name is Maja – picked up her scent and found the girl in the forest.

The dog then stayed with the 13-year-old and barked until his handlers came over.

The girl was uninjured and doing well.
