A man in his forties was taken into custody for intentional homicide of a spouse in Cagnes-sur-Mer, near Nice, the Grasse prosecutor's office (Alpes-Maritimes) said on Monday.
Born in 1982, this man, living with his partner born in 1980 in this coastal town, called the firefighters himself Monday morning to report that his partner was injured.
“On site, the emergency services noted the death of the victim who showed traces of blows
,” notes the Grasse prosecutor’s office.
“The first investigations revealed that the companion was under the influence of alcohol and narcotics
,” adds the prosecution, specifying that the accused is known to the courts for numerous offenses.
In 2014, he was convicted by a court in another jurisdiction for acts of domestic violence against a previous partner.
Police intervention at night
According to a police source, a police intervention took place at 1:30 a.m., at the request of a neighbor, for suspicion of violence, but no injuries were noted and the woman did not request help.
On average, a feminicide occurs every three days in France.
The Minister of Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, put forward at the beginning of January the figure of 94 feminicides in 2023, compared to 118 in 2022, a drop greeted with skepticism by feminist associations.
