Despite the headwinds blowing at the thirteenth ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) - organized this week in Abu Dhabi - its director general, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is hoping for tangible results.

It is now up to you to reach consensus on decisions aimed at building a better future for global trade,”
declared the Nigerian leader at the opening of the conference, in the presence of the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates.
And to call on Member States to reproduce what she considers to be the “
miracle
” of the 2022 ministerial, which resulted in a first agreement, admittedly still very imperfect, on fishing, patents for anti-Covid vaccines and the beginning of a common desire to reform the international forum based in Geneva.
Despite the acceleration of the talks – “
we are literally working 24 hours a day
,” said the general director – “
reproducing this miracle will be a real challenge
