The National Secretariat of Culture, headed by Leonardo Cifelli, decided to cancel the “Ecunhi strengthening program.”
The
Nuestros Hijos Cultural Space (Ecunhi)
is located in the former ESMA (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2023) and is run by
Verónica Parodi, daughter of the former Minister
of Culture of the Nation Teresa Parodi, chamamé singer-songwriter and activist Kirchnerist.
The final decision was made after receiving the request for a budget update with a 45% increase, which would raise the annual cost to 82,504,481.28 pesos.
Currently Ecunhi, since its beginnings linked to the children of the disappeared and personally to Hebe de Bonafini, has 24 employees, the director V. Parodi–.
According to
Clarín
Cultura in unobjectionable sources from the National
Culture
area , the program whose enigmatic title is “ARG 19001” was canceled because, after evaluating it in the secretariat, they indicated, “we consider that they indoctrinate people and for our government it is throw away the money
It is pure ideological indoctrination
.”
It is not surprising, since it is not the only cultural center or institution that has diverted State resources for programs that were exclusively oriented to the Kirchnerist model of government, they indicated.
The monthly amount requested to strengthen the program is $6,875,373.44 per month.
This is not the first time that the Ecunhi is questioned;
During the government of Mauricio Macri, the possibility of regrouping the different small institutions scattered throughout the property was considered, but then the project was canceled.
Vice President Victoria Villarruel herself criticized this space as a whole, arguing that "
there are 17 hectares
that the entire town could enjoy."

A quick look at the activities they carry out, according to the program to which
Clarín
had access , these range from
plastic arts workshops to literary and artistic ones
, including others on human rights and
“popular education”
.
Precisely the latter are aimed at “promoting citizen participation, critical awareness and community organization, addressing issues of social and political interest.”
The courses on human rights are organized around the concept of “historical memory”, with talks, debates and screenings of documentaries.
Ecunhi also organizes events, book fairs, craft fairs and thematic meetings.
The space is financed with
state subsidies
, both national, provincial and municipal;
donations from international NGOs and companies, and also has its own income from the sale of tickets to the events it proposes, as well as the marketing of books and cultural products.
But you can also access financing funds intended for cultural, educational or social projects, since it covers the entire spectrum.
For this year, its cultural proposals, according to the report to which we had access, include guided tours, video screenings, the holding of
a cooperative fair-festival of agroecological products
, crafts and gastronomy, as well as a milonga for “tangonauts” (the expression is a tribute to
The Eternauta
, by Héctor G. Oesterheld, a cartoonist who disappeared in 1977).
