Two years after the introduction of environmental protection in the Constitution, in February 2022, "constitutional changes should have been made, adapting the previously approved rules. On the contrary, we have witnessed parliamentary and government initiatives which aim to weaken environmental protection of the environment and nature, thus damaging the interest of the new generations in living in a protected and healthy environment".
This was stated by Luciano DiTizio, president of WWF Italy.
at a conference in the Senate.
According to WWF Italy, "there are several rules already approved or under consideration by Parliament that ignore the constitutional changes introduced in 2022".
Cited were "the provision which prevents the suspension of works and the seizure of production plants even in the presence of crimes concerning health and the environment; the rules which prevent the Regional Administrative Courts from suspending the effectiveness of the regional hunting calendars even in the case of particular emergencies; the provision, improperly contained in the 2023 Budget Law, which allows hunters to carry out an activity similar to hunting, even in periods of hunting ban, in protected areas and even in urban parks".
The WWF also contests "the bill filed in the Senate by the Brothers of Italy which intends to modify 18 articles of the framework law on protected natural areas, entrusting, among other things, the governance of the national parks to the mayors, thus ignoring the national role of protection of nature carried out in the management councils of the parks by the competent ministries (environment and agriculture), by research (Ispra) and by recognized environmental protection associations".
